Taliban Claims Seizure of 19 Pakistani Military Posts, Says 55 Soldiers Killed

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Taliban’s governing body in Afghanistan announced the successful capture of 19 military outposts belonging to Pakistan and reported the deaths of 55 Pakistani soldiers during a significant border operation. This announcement, made on Thursday, comes as a claimed retaliation against recent Pakistani aerial bombardments in Afghan territory. Hamdullah Fitrat, the deputy spokesperson for the Afghan government, stated that intense counter-offensives have been initiated along the Durand Line, resulting in the acquisition of one major military headquarters alongside the outposts.

Fitrat asserted that the operations have extended across several provinces, including Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Kunar, Nuristan, and Nangarhar, as well as at the Torkham Gate. On social media, he highlighted the ongoing military engagement by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, which has utilized the 203 Mansouri Corps and the 201 Khalid bin Walid Corps in these operations.

Casualties and Equipment Seized

According to Fitrat, the resulting casualties included the recovery of 23 bodies of Pakistani soldiers, with several others reportedly taken as prisoners. He also mentioned the capture of numerous weapons, damage to a tank, and the seizing of an International Harvester vehicle. The operational updates revealed that several Pakistani outposts had been abandoned and subsequently set ablaze.

Fitrat particularly emphasized the capture of a significant military headquarters located at Anzar Sar in the Alisher-Terezi district of Khost Province amidst ongoing military activities. He claimed numerous casualties among Pakistani forces during the engagement and indicated that considerable armaments had fallen to Afghan forces, thereby enhancing their operational capabilities.

Response to Pakistani Military Actions

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, previously indicated that the extensive operations were a direct response to recurrent attacks targeting Afghan soil by elements of the Pakistani military. He expressed that these offensives are necessary actions taken by the Taliban against perceived aggressions and violations of Afghan sovereignty.

In a statement released via social media, Mujahid reiterated the legitimacy of the recent military maneuvers, framing them as counteractions to repeated hostilities from Pakistani military establishments. The Taliban asserted its aim to safeguard Afghanistan’s territorial integrity through these unilateral military operations along the Durand Line.

Leadership of the Afghan Military Operations

The operations are reportedly being commanded by Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Chief of Staff of the Taliban’s armed forces. His leadership has been highlighted as pivotal in organizing the military efforts against Pakistani forces. The Taliban’s structure indicates a collective approach involving multiple military units, underscoring the operational scale and intensity of these engagements.

The conflict along the Durand Line remains a contentious issue, with ongoing military operations potentially affecting stability in the region. As the Taliban continues its activities, international observers are expected to monitor the situation closely, given its implications for Afghanistan-Pakistan relations and broader regional dynamics.
