Stormy Weather and Heavy Rains Expected Across India on Tuesday

The CSR Journal Magazine

Rains and thunderstorms are anticipated across various regions of India on Tuesday, October 6, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Significant rainfall is expected in southern states, notably Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy showers.

Demand for caution is highlighted as thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are predicted in multiple states. The IMD’s forecast indicates that areas in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may experience intense rainfall, raising concerns about potential localised flooding.

The ongoing southwest monsoon is in the process of retreating from the country, which is contributing to these weather conditions. As of October 5, the withdrawal line was observed across parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, extending along India’s western coast.

Thunderstorms Expected in Delhi-NCR

In Delhi-NCR, a noticeable shift from recent dry weather is forecasted for Tuesday. The IMD has predicted isolated thunderstorms with lightning and winds gusting at 40-50 kmph across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab. These conditions may signal a break from the dry spell that has been prevalent in the region.

Similar stormy weather is projected across the western Himalayan region, where thunderstorms and strong winds are likely in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand. Gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph could accompany these storms, urging residents to remain alert.

In addition, Uttar Pradesh may experience isolated thunderstorms and lightning, while Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Konkan, Goa, and parts of Maharashtra could also see similar conditions, indicating widespread weather activity across northern and central states.

Active Weather Systems Supporting Rainfall

The southern region is expected to be the epicentre of rainfall, with the IMD predicting fairly widespread to widespread rains over Kerala and Mahe. Heavy showers are likely in isolated areas within Kerala, South Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, bolstering the wet conditions in these states.

Multiple weather systems are currently active and contributing to rainfall across the country. An upper-air cyclonic circulation over Bihar and surrounding areas, combined with a trough extending from Gangetic West Bengal to Madhya Maharashtra, is sustaining weather patterns in eastern and central regions.

Moreover, isolated thunderstorms with strong winds are predicted over Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim. This ongoing weather activity will keep conditions dynamic across a large part of India, even as the monsoon season comes to a close.
