Northeast Monsoon to Bring Heavy Rain to South India

The CSR Journal Magazine

The onset of the Northeast Monsoon is anticipated to bring significant rainfall to various regions in South India, according to Skymet Weather. A low-pressure area is expected to form over the South Andaman Sea and subsequently move towards the Southwest Bay of Bengal. This weather pattern is likely to result in heavy rain and thunderstorms across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka from October 14 to 19.

Skymet Weather has indicated that the unsettled weather conditions will also affect parts of northern India over the next 24 hours. Areas including Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh may experience rain and thunderstorms during this period.

Furthermore, regions in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir are predicted to see scattered rainfall, as noted in a post on X at around 8:30 pm on Monday.

IMD’s Forecast for Northeast Monsoon

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that conditions are becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from the remaining parts of the country. Simultaneously, the commencement of the Northeast Monsoon is expected to occur over the southern peninsula in the next two to three days. The IMD has forecasted a prolonged wet spell over South India for the next five to six days.

According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated in Kerala and Mahe, as well as Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh between October 15 and 18. Additionally, North Interior Karnataka is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall on October 17 and 18, while Rayalaseema may see similar conditions on October 15 and 16.

The IMD has also mentioned that hot and humid weather is likely to persist over Konkan and Goa on October 12 and 13, which could impact local conditions in these areas.

Weather Conditions in Delhi

In Delhi, the IMD has predicted a partly cloudy sky for Tuesday, October 13. The maximum temperatures in the city are expected to range from 32°C to 34°C, while the minimum temperatures are likely to be between 20°C and 22°C. The minimum temperature is forecasted to be above normal by approximately 1.6°C to 3.0°C in most areas, with maximum temperatures remaining close to normal, varying by -1.5°C to 1.5°C across the region.

This weather update highlights the significant changes anticipated in the coming days, particularly with the onset of the Northeast Monsoon, which is expected to bring relief from the heat and dry conditions prevalent in many parts of South India.

As the weather patterns evolve, residents are advised to stay informed about local forecasts and prepare for potential disruptions caused by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the affected regions.
