SpiceJet’s Pune-Dubai Flight Delayed Overnight, Passengers Stranded

Passengers aboard a SpiceJet flight from Pune to Dubai experienced significant delays, with many alleging that they were stranded at Pune airport for over nine hours. The flight SG 51, scheduled to depart at 8.50 pm on June 1, was delayed multiple times before finally taking off around 6.15 am on June 2. Numerous travellers reported receiving minimal information regarding the delays from the airline.

According to affected passengers, the flight was first postponed to 1 am before being rescheduled again to the early morning. Many stated they were unaware of these changes until they arrived at the airport, causing frustration and confusion. The lengthy wait required them to remain in the terminal throughout the night.

Reports indicate that airline representatives provided various reasons for the delays. Some passengers were informed that operational issues at Dubai airport were the cause, while others were told that the aircraft arriving from Delhi had experienced lateness. This inconsistency contributed to passengers’ dissatisfaction with the communication from the airline.

Passengers Voice Concerns Over Poor Communication

Amid the delays, several passengers expressed their discontent with the airline’s lack of communication and support. Ankit Mishra, who was travelling to Dubai for urgent business, stated that he only discovered the delays upon arriving at the airport. He highlighted the absence of prior notifications regarding changes in the flight schedule.

Mishra noted that his flight was initially set for 9.00 pm, which was then moved to 1.00 am without any notification. He shared his frustration on social media, indicating a “complete lack of communication and disregard for passengers.” For individuals with pressing travel needs, such situations can considerably disrupt their plans.

Additionally, many passengers alleged that basic amenities such as food and drinking water were inadequately provided during the protracted wait. Families travelling with children and elderly members were particularly impacted by the circumstances, compounding their distress at the airport.

SpiceJet Responds to Complaints and Outlines Reasons for Delay

In response to the numerous complaints from passengers, a spokesperson from SpiceJet provided an explanation regarding the delay. The spokesperson stated that the initial holdup was caused by an operational issue linked to the aircraft’s previous flight. The airline asserted that communication had been made to alert passengers to the revised schedule proactively.

Furthermore, the spokesperson explained that an unforeseen maintenance issue emerged shortly before the flight’s departure, contributing to the extended delay. SpiceJet expressed its regret over the inconvenience caused to the affected passengers and reiterated their commitment to improving communication in the future.

While the airline has apologised for the situation, many travellers remain sceptical about the communication and support they received during the ordeal. The incident raises questions about customer service practices within the airline industry and highlights the importance of effective communication, particularly during unforeseen delays.
