The single-engine Cessna 172 had taken off from Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma shortly before the crash, as outlined by the Federal Aviation Administration. Crash Location and Response

The aircraft was eventually located in the waters near Newburgh, situated approximately 62 miles (100 kilometers) north of Manhattan. The swift actions of the emergency responders at the scene were noted, as they worked to address the situation and assist those on board the plane.

Occupants’ Condition

The pilot and one passenger managed to escape the wreckage and swam to safety, subsequently receiving medical attention for minor injuries at a hospital. Authorities have not released the names of those on board. Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing and are being handled by the FAA.

Reactions to the Incident

New York Governor Kathy Hochul praised the responders’ efforts, describing the successful rescue as “another miracle on the Hudson.” This remark evokes memories of a similar event in January 2009 when a US Airways jet lost power after colliding with a flock of birds shortly after takeoff, forcing a water landing in the Hudson River. In that incident, pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger successfully landed the aircraft, leading to the safe rescue of all 155 individuals aboard.
