The second phase of the Kedarnath Dham Yatra is gaining momentum, prompting District Magistrate Vishal Mishra to lead the administrative oversight from the district control room. His focus is on ensuring the safety of pilgrims, managing routes efficiently, and maintaining continuous weather surveillance along the pilgrimage pathways.
Mishra has taken a hands-on approach by personally overseeing arrangements at Kedarnath Dham and various key points along the route. He has communicated critical directives to the Chief Development Officer, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Chief Veterinary Officer, District Disaster Management Officer, and other responsible officials.
<h4“Following an inspection by a team from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, we have received flight permissions to resume helicopter services, ensuring compliance with their guidelines. Our monitoring will be ongoing, especially considering the weather to avoid any pilgrim inconveniences,” Mishra noted in a statement.
Helicopter Services Resume to Assist Pilgrims
The new phase of the Kedarnath Yatra coincided with the reintroduction of helicopter services on September 12. This initiative is specifically aimed at aiding those who are elderly or differently-abled, offering them a more convenient travel option to the sacred site of Kedarnath Dham.
“Helicopter services have therefore resumed for pilgrims seeking to visit Kedarnath Dham, covering the needs of senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and others who wish to use these services. Operations are currently conducted from eight helipads managed by eight private service providers,” Mishra explained.
The second phase has seen a notable rise in the number of pilgrims travelling to the shrine. Authorities believe that the helicopter services will significantly enhance access for those unable to make the trek on foot due to age or health concerns.
Chief Minister Reviews Preparations for the Yatra
“The safety and convenience of pilgrims must remain our highest priority,” Dhami asserted. He instructed officials to keep a close watch on weather and landslide conditions affecting the pilgrimage routes, affirmed adequate security at vulnerable sites, and reinforced coordination between all relevant departments.
Further, the Chief Minister highlighted the necessity of special vigilance in areas like Chirbasa and Bhairav Glacier, where many pilgrims pass. He urged proactive measures to regulate movement in these sensitive locations and ensure efficient rescue arrangements are in place if required.
