The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 17, Telangana Police announced an extensive search operation for four unidentified individuals who allegedly stole a carton containing ₹1 crore in cash from two air conditioning mechanics in Kukatpally. The robbery incident occurred around 9:40 PM near Pillar No. 837 as the victims were riding their scooty.

The two victims, identified as Md. Khusru, aged 42, and Md. Azeemuddin, aged 38, both residents of Bahadurpura, were approached by the suspects riding bikes. The robbers reportedly threw chilli powder at the victims, rendering them unable to defend themselves during the theft of the valuable carton box. Following the incident, the assailants quickly fled the scene on their vehicles.

In response to the robbery, the Kukatpally Police have formed four dedicated teams to investigate the case. Efforts are underway to gather evidence and identify the culprits involved in this high-value theft.

Police Warn Citizens About Cyber Fraud

Additionally, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has issued warnings concerning a rise in cyber fraud, particularly using tactics that exploit gas connection updates. He emphasized the importance of public vigilance against such schemes targeted at deceiving individuals into providing sensitive information.

Sajjanar expressed concern over criminals taking advantage of the ongoing shortages of gas cylinders. He highlighted that unauthorized links received via messaging platforms like WhatsApp or SMS, suggesting KYC updates or emergency gas bookings, should be approached with caution. Downloading APK files sent by fraudsters can lead to a complete compromise of mobile devices, allowing criminals to intercept sensitive information, including bank OTPs.

The Commissioner shared a recent incident from Dombivli, Maharashtra, illustrating the risks involved. In this case, cybercriminals posed as representatives from a reputable gas company, convincing two women to update their gas connection details. The scammers instructed them to download an APK file, followed by a form submission. Consequently, a total of ₹4 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn from their bank accounts after the app was installed.

Sajjanar urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious to avoid falling victim to such scams, stressing the need for awareness regarding the modus operandi of cybercriminals. The police continue to investigate various fraud cases to protect residents from financial deceit in the digital age.
