Retired Army Officer Killed in Jaipur Hit-and-Run; Driver on the Run

The CSR Journal Magazine

A retired Indian Army captain, Narsaram Jajra, lost his life in a tragic road accident on the morning of Independence Day. While cycling to Chitrakoot Stadium, as was his routine, he was hit from behind by a speeding car and dragged nearly 10 feet. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.

The shocking incident, captured entirely on CCTV, shows Jajra being struck and pulled under the vehicle’s front wheel. Eyewitnesses and police confirmed that he died on the spot due to severe injuries. The case has now triggered widespread concern over growing reckless driving in the city.

Case Registered

Authorities later confirmed that the vehicle was being driven by a woman, with her child in the front passenger seat. “A case has been registered in the matter. The accused is yet to be arrested in the case,” said Hawa Singh, Station Incharge at Karni Vihar police station. The driver has been identified using CCTV footage, and police are actively searching for her.

This is not the first time Jaipur has witnessed such a violent road crash. A few weeks ago, 15-year-old Safan Baig died near the Nai Mata Temple when a truck hit the motorcycle he was riding pillion. His cousin, who was driving the bike, sustained injuries but survived. That incident too caused local outrage over the lack of road safety enforcement.

Earlier this year in April, another major road tragedy shook Jaipur. An SUV plowed through a crowded road, killing three and injuring six others. The accused, identified as Usman Khan, was found to be intoxicated while driving. CCTV footage from that day showed the SUV crashing into pedestrians, parked vehicles, and two-wheelers in its path. The crash prompted massive protests, with some political leaders alleging Khan had links to the Congress party.

Similar Incident Took Place

In a similar case in Delhi, 40-year-old Beche Lal, a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, was fatally hit by a Thar SUV in the upscale Moti Bagh area on Friday night. He had been standing beside his Pulsar motorcycle when the SUV rammed into him. The force of the impact caused the bike to slam into a passing truck. Police said empty liquor bottles were found inside the Thar, suggesting possible drunk driving.

Lal’s death has left his family devastated. The father of five had moved to Delhi in search of employment and was the family’s only breadwinner. “He had gone to meet someone when the incident occurred,” a family member said.

All three incidents—two in Jaipur and one in Delhi—reflect a disturbing trend of careless and intoxicated driving leading to deaths on Indian roads. Investigations are ongoing in each case, while families await justice and local communities demand stricter action against reckless drivers.
