On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has conveyed warm greetings to the people of India, stressing the importance of affection, trust, and familial bonds that the festival signifies. In a message shared on the social media platform X, Gandhi underscored the emotional connection that exists between siblings. He expressed, “Heartfelt Raksha Bandhan wishes to all fellow citizens. May this unbreakable bond between brother and sister, tied by threads of affection, grow even stronger with love and trust.”

In a similar vein, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took to X to reflect on the cultural significance associated with the festival. He remarked, “The sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the love, trust, and unbreakable bond between brother and sister.” Kharge elaborated on the festival’s role in fostering a sense of mutual respect, equality, and responsibility, stating, “Rising above the boundaries of caste, religion, and sect, this festival conveys the message of brotherhood and social harmony, serving as a symbol of the beautiful traditions of our society.” He concluded with heartfelt wishes for love and goodwill to flourish among all citizens.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also shared his greetings, noting that the festival embodies a collective obligation towards the dignity of women. In his message on X, Singh reiterated, “Heartfelt greetings on the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan. This festival, embodying the unbreakable affection, mutual trust, and deep bond between brother and sister, beautifully reflects our rich cultural heritage and values. It also inspires us to remain committed to the honour, safety, and dignity of women.”

Rakhi Reaches Ram Lalla Temple In Ayodhya

The celebrations of Raksha Bandhan are underway throughout the country, characterised by traditional rituals, sacred offerings, and unique community gestures. In Ayodhya, Rakhis dispatched from the ashram of Lord Ram’s sister, Mata Shanta, reached the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, where they were to be tied to the idol of Ram Lalla. The Rakhi was brought from the renowned Shringi Ashram after ceremonial prayers conducted by the priests.

Priest Santosh Tiwari at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple informed, “We have received the Rakhis; it has reached us. Now, it will be offered to Ram Lalla Ji, all four brothers, and additionally to all the priests because it has also come for the priests as ‘prasad’ (blessed offering).”

Tribal Women Tie Rakhis To Trees

On the other hand, in the city of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, tribal women celebrated the eve of Raksha Bandhan by committing to environmental conservation. They tied Rakhis on forest trees to symbolise their pledge to protect nature. Jamuna Tudu, a Padma Shri awardee, stated, “Today, on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, we have tied rakhis on trees for their long life. This is the entire forest. We have taken a pledge that until the last moment, we will not let the trees be cut.”

Local tribal woman Reshma Mardi added, “We have learned from our ancestors, and they always protect the forests. The forest is like our parents… We tie rakhis to the trees. We want to tell the coming generations the same.”

As the festival continues to be celebrated nationwide, it echoes the enduring values that bind families, communities, and traditions in Indian society.
