Rajasthan Mass Murder: Man Chases, Shoots Dead 25 Dogs in 2 Days; Video Goes Viral

The CSR Journal Magazine

A deeply disturbing incident from Kumawas village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district has triggered nationwide outrage. This comes after a video surfaced showing the brutal killing of over 25 stray dogs. The inhumane act took place over two days, on August 2 and 3, and only came to light after a graphic video went viral on social media.

The footage, now widely circulated, shows two individuals riding a motorcycle through the village streets. They openly shoot at stray dogs using a rifle. The aftermath reveals a gut-wrenching scene, blood-soaked bodies of dogs strewn across roads and fields. A third person, seen following the pair on a separate motorcycle, appears to be recording the act, though his involvement is still under investigation.

Accused on Run, Police Begin Probe

Superintendent of Police, Jhunjhunu, Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay, confirmed that a case has been registered against the main accused, identified as Sheochand (also referred to as Shyochand) Bavariya, a resident of Dumra village. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Arms Act.

“We are aware of the video showing a person shooting at dogs in Kumawas village. Immediate steps were taken to investigate the matter,” Upadhyay said. “After the video surfaced, we took immediate steps to verify the authenticity of the videos. A thorough investigation is now underway,” SP Upadhyay stated. Head Constable Shubhkaran has been appointed to lead the local inquiry, according to a report.

Despite the initiation of legal proceedings, the prime accused remains absconding. Police are actively pursuing his arrest and verifying the role of other individuals seen or heard in the footage.

Villagers Defend Killings

In a shocking twist, many villagers have come out in support of the dog killings. They claim that stray dogs had been attacking their livestock, particularly goats, for months, allegedly killing over 50 animals. The villagers argue that the administration failed to act despite repeated complaints, leaving them no choice but to take matters into their own hands.

Following police action, local residents staged a protest, demanding compensation for their livestock losses. They insisted that if any charges were to be filed, the entire village should be held accountable, as the act was a collective decision driven by desperation.

Nationwide Condemnation and Demand for Action

Animal rights organizations, local activists, and citizens across the country have expressed deep anger and sadness over the brutal killing. Social media platforms have been flooded with calls for swift justice and stronger laws to prevent such barbaric acts in the future.

“This is not just a crime against animals, it’s a crime against humanity. Such cruelty cannot be justified under any circumstances,” said one activist.

Senior government officials and ministers have also been alerted to the incident, with many urging the Rajasthan administration to take decisive action.

What Lies Ahead

Meanwhile, as the investigations continue, the incident has reignited discussions around animal welfare, the need for better stray dog management systems. Authorities are expected to make further arrests and provide clarity on the involvement of all individuals captured in the disturbing footage.

For now, the community of Kumawas and the entire district of Jhunjhunu remain at the center of a deeply painful and polarizing debate.
