Rainfall to Continue in Southern India from Cyclone Murasu Remnants

The CSR Journal Magazine

Rainfall activity is anticipated to persist across various regions of southern India on Thursday, November 5, due to the remnants of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating that several southern states will experience showers, while much of north-western India is expected to remain dry. The cyclone, which made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast before weakening, has now diminished into a depression over east Telangana and adjacent coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The weather system is projected to move in a northward direction and further weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area. Despite this weakening, its residual effects are likely to sustain rainfall across parts of southern India. The IMD has predicted isolated to scattered rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka on November 5. Additionally, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are also expected to receive showers.

Heavy rainfall may occur in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, as well as in south interior Karnataka. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, are also anticipated in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka. The IMD’s predictions highlight the potential for significant weather activity in these regions.

Unsettled Weather in Central and Eastern India

Parts of central and eastern India may also face unpredictable weather conditions. Regions such as Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience isolated to scattered rainfall, while Odisha may witness thunderstorms with accompanying lightning and gusty winds on November 5. The IMD has noted that no substantial weather activity is expected over north-western, western, and north-eastern India during the week, indicating a relatively stable weather pattern in those areas.

As the remnants of Cyclone Murasu continue to influence weather patterns, the potential for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms remains a concern for residents in the affected southern regions. The IMD’s forecasts serve as a crucial warning for those living in areas prone to severe weather conditions.

Weather systems over the Indian subcontinent, as depicted in satellite imagery, illustrate the ongoing influence of Cyclone Murasu and its remnants. These visual representations underscore the importance of monitoring weather developments as they unfold.

Weather Conditions in Delhi-NCR

In contrast to the southern regions, Delhi is expected to experience mainly clear skies on November 5, although some shallow fog or mist may form in certain areas during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are projected to remain between 27-29°C and 15-17°C, respectively. The absence of rainfall and the anticipated clear skies are likely to contribute to elevated pollution levels in the capital as the festive season approaches.

Winds in Delhi will originate from the north-west at speeds reaching up to 15 kmph in the morning, increasing to 20 kmph in the afternoon before slowing down again in the evening. The stable weather conditions expected in Delhi-NCR indicate a lack of major weather systems that could disrupt the current pattern.

As the week progresses, the contrasting weather scenarios across different regions of India highlight the diverse climatic conditions influenced by the remnants of Cyclone Murasu and other weather systems. Residents are advised to stay informed about local weather forecasts as conditions continue to evolve.
