Southern India to See Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms on November 6

The CSR Journal Magazine

Weather forecasts indicate that southern India will continue to experience significant rainfall on Friday, November 6. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted isolated heavy showers in several states, including coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. These conditions are expected to persist throughout the day, particularly in regions like Puducherry and Karaikal, where heavy rainfall is anticipated.

In addition to the heavy showers, scattered rainfall is likely across coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, and the Lakshadweep Islands. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, which may be accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu. These weather patterns are remnants of the Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu that recently affected the Andhra Pradesh coast.

The low-pressure area over east Telangana and adjacent coastal Andhra Pradesh has weakened but continues to influence the weather. The cyclonic circulation in the region is expected to maintain rainfall activity, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where widespread rainfall is forecast for November 7 and 8.

Rainfall Forecast for Odisha and the Northeast

In Odisha, isolated to scattered rainfall is expected on November 6, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands may also experience showers, contributing to the overall wet conditions in the region. The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity in the Northeast will gradually increase starting November 8.

States such as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to receive rainfall in the coming days. This increase in precipitation is anticipated to provide some relief to the region, which has been experiencing varying weather patterns. The IMD is closely monitoring these developments to provide timely updates.

As the weather systems evolve, residents in these areas are advised to stay updated on local forecasts and take necessary precautions, particularly in light of the expected thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

Dry and Cold Conditions in Northern India

In contrast to the southern states, northern India, including Delhi, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh, is expected to remain dry on November 6. The IMD has reported a significant lack of weather activity across north-western India, with no rain forecasted for the coming days. This dry spell is accompanied by a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures across parts of northern India.

On November 4, maximum temperatures in east and west Uttar Pradesh were recorded to be more than 5 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average, indicating a marked cooling trend. Residents in these areas are likely to experience colder conditions as the dry weather continues.

A fresh western disturbance is anticipated to affect the western Himalayan region starting November 10. This weather system may bring the possibility of rain to parts of the hills, offering a change from the prevailing dry conditions. As the situation develops, the IMD will continue to provide updates on weather forecasts and any potential impacts on local communities.
