The CSR Journal Magazine

A domestic disagreement escalated into violence on Sunday afternoon in a village in Punjab, as the family of a woman allegedly attacked her in-laws, leaving four individuals injured. According to police officials in Moga, the situation unfolded after the wife, Rani, reached out to her maternal family following a quarrel with her husband, Sona Singh.

Reportedly, around 20 to 25 members of Rani’s parental family arrived at the residence of the in-laws shortly after being summoned. Witnesses allege that the arriving group initiated an assault on Sona’s family, with some individuals reportedly opening fire during the incident. Among those injured were Sona Singh, his father-in-law, and his sister-in-law, who all sustained injuries in the altercation.

All injured parties were transported to Moga Civil Hospital for medical assistance, where they are currently receiving treatment. Sona Singh’s condition has been assessed as critical, leading to his transfer to Faridkot Medical College for further care.

Police Response and Investigation

Law enforcement officials responded to the scene following reports of the incident. Upon their arrival, an investigation was launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the altercation. Police are focusing on collecting evidence and statements from witnesses in the village.

Sona Singh recounted the events leading up to the attack, noting that the dispute with Rani prompted her to contact her family. He claimed that they arrived in a short period and began attacking his family, which first involved physical assaults before escalating to gunfire. Singh specifically mentioned sustaining a bullet injury, while his father and sister were also hurt due to pellets fired during the incident.

Witnesses state that the attackers fled the area once nearby residents gathered and raised an alarm about the violence. Local authorities are prioritising the apprehension of those responsible for the alleged attack.

Victims’ Accounts

In an additional account, Sona Singh’s sister, Nirmal Kaur, who is currently four months pregnant, described the chaos that ensued when the attackers arrived. She alleged that the group displayed a complete disregard for her family’s safety, launching into physical assaults without hesitation. Kaur claimed she was kicked in the abdomen during the confrontation and reported that an attempt was made to shoot her.

The situation has prompted discussions among community members regarding safety and the prevalence of domestic disputes escalating into violence. Local authorities have assured residents that strict action will be taken against those identified as perpetrators of the attack. Investigations are ongoing, with efforts aimed at arresting the individuals involved in the incident.

As the investigation unfolds, the local community remains engaged in dialogue over domestic violence and the implications of such disputes within family structures. The police have committed to ensuring justice for the victims of this incident and maintaining order in the region moving forward.
