President Droupadi Murmu Highlights the Need for Ending Violence and Inequality for Women’s Empowerment

During an event titled ‘Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi’ in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu articulated the necessity of removing various barriers to achieve true women empowerment. She emphasized that challenges such as violence, economic disparity, social stereotypes, and health issues continue to hinder women’s progress. “Women will be genuinely empowered when they can make independent choices, live with dignity, and have access to opportunities and security,” the President stated. She acknowledged the existing reforms aimed at protecting women from domestic violence and ensuring equal pay and property rights.

Progress and Initiatives Benefiting Women

President Murmu expressed her contentment with the Indian government’s transition from merely empowering women to promoting women-led development. She underscored the impressive achievements of women across various fields, from military service to scientific research, and highlighted their accomplishments in international sports. “Women are making their mark in politics, social service, administration, and business, which is evident in the growing number of young women earning degrees and accolades at convocations nationwide,” she remarked. Initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, which offers financial assistance for self-employment, and the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, which aims to foster self-reliance, were also praised.

Collective Responsibility Toward Women’s Empowerment

The President highlighted that the task of empowering women is a shared responsibility, extending beyond government efforts to include participation from all societal members and institutions. She underscored the importance of education, confidence-building, and providing support to women, urging collective action in this endeavor. Additionally, she noted the significance of a safe and enabling environment for women to thrive.

Delhi’s Role in Setting an Example

Recognizing Delhi’s unique status as the national capital, President Murmu highlighted the potential impact of empowering women in the region. She stated that if women in Delhi are safe, educated, and self-reliant, they could lead with confidence and become role models for others across the nation. The President urged that Delhi should exemplify women-led development, sending a strong message throughout the country. She reinforced that for women to make meaningful contributions to the vision of a prosperous Delhi and a developed India, collaborative societal and governmental efforts are essential.
