The Datia Assembly by-election has recorded a voter turnout of approximately 32.53 per cent by 11 AM on July 30, as per the data provided by the Election Commission of India. The polling operations commenced peacefully at 7 AM and have been ongoing across the constituency. Early figures indicated a turnout of 12.94 per cent until 9 AM.

Datia Collector Swapnil Wankhade confirmed that voting has been smooth, and no disturbances have been reported in any polling areas. The mock polls, which serve as preparations for the main event, were conducted between 5:30 AM and 7 AM without incident.

Collector Wankhade mentioned minor technical issues with some voting equipment, including a faulty Control Unit (CU) and a faulty Ballot Unit (BU). These were promptly replaced under CCTV surveillance, with representatives from all political parties present to sign off on the replacements. Election officials ensure that the voting process is being monitored closely.

Security and Monitoring Measures in Place

The district administration reported that all 291 polling stations are being supervised, with security personnel deployed to maintain order. Authorities have not received any reports of law and order disturbances from polling locations, indicating a generally peaceful voting environment.

A central control room has been established by the district administration, where officials are continuously monitoring the polling process through CCTV feeds. This arrangement is intended to ensure transparency and prompt responses to any issues that may arise during voting.

According to the District Election Office, there are 2,20,410 eligible voters registered for this by-election. This figure includes 1,16,116 male voters, 1,04,284 female voters, and 10 voters from other gender categories. The logistics of the polling have been carefully arranged, with a distribution of polling stations across urban and rural areas.

Polling Process and Future Steps

The Datia Assembly constituency is divided into 36 sectors, each overseen by a designated Sector Officer to facilitate smooth voting operations. Out of the 291 polling stations, 185 are located in rural areas, and 106 are in urban regions. Of these, 233 have been marked as critical stations, while 28 are classified as vulnerable based on various criteria.

Polling is set to continue until 6 PM on July 30. Following the conclusion of voting, the counting of votes is scheduled for August 3. This election became necessary due to the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti on April 2, which left the seat vacant.

The contest features candidates from two major political parties; the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Ashutosh Tiwari, while the Indian National Congress has put forth Ghanshyam Singh. The outcomes of this election will be closely watched, considering the political implications for both parties in the region.
