Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the MANAV initiative, asserting it establishes a pathway for humanity toward a more secure future. Unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the MANAV vision emphasizes a human-centered framework for artificial intelligence.

The acronym MANAV stands for Moral and Ethical Systems, Accountable Governance, National Sovereignty, Accessible and Inclusive Technology, and Valid and Legitimate Systems. This initiative is intended to shape the global development of AI, with an emphasis on ethics and transparency.

Prime Minister Modi’s Address at the Summit

Earlier on the same day, PM Modi detailed the MANAV AI Vision at the summit and engaged in discussions with various international leaders to enhance bilateral cooperation. He met with figures such as Dick Schoof, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Guy Parmelin, President of Switzerland, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece, and Emmanuel Macron, President of France. These discussions focused on fostering collaboration across technological, trade, connectivity, and strategic sectors.

The Significance of the AI Impact Summit 2026

During the summit, Modi remarked that India is hosting the largest AI Impact Summit, representing one-sixth of the global population. He highlighted that India has the largest youth demographic and a significant tech talent pool, fostering an environment ripe for technological advancement.

Modi indicated that 1.4 billion Indians are ready to adopt innovative technologies and that artificial intelligence signifies a transformative chapter in human progress.

Core Principles of the MANAV Vision

In his address, Prime Minister Modi stressed the need for democratizing AI, emphasizing it should serve as a tool for empowerment, particularly for the Global South. He pointed out that India envisions AI as a shared resource that enhances inclusion and innovation.

The five pillars of the MANAV vision include: Moral and Ethical Systems affirming the importance of foundational guidelines; Accountable Governance ensuring transparency and oversight; National Sovereignty asserting that data belongs to its rightful owners; Accessible and Inclusive Technology advocating against monopolization; and Valid and Legitimate Systems ensuring that AI applications are lawful and verifiable.

Emphasis on Ethical AI Usage

During the Leaders Plenary Session, Modi articulated that the AI Impact Summit is pivotal in establishing a human-centric global ecosystem. He insisted that AI must remain accessible to all and placed the priorities of the Global South at the core of governance. Modi made three crucial recommendations for the ethical deployment of AI, which include the establishment of a trusted global data framework, transparent safety regulations, and the integration of human values into AI systems. He pointed out that responsible use of AI should prioritize the welfare of humanity.

India’s Commitment to AI Development

Prime Minister Modi recognized India’s significant role in the global artificial intelligence landscape, announcing that under its AI mission, 38,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) are currently available, with an additional 24,000 expected within the next six months. He mentioned the launch of AIKosh, a national dataset platform that provides access to over 7,500 datasets and 270 AI models as resources for innovation.

Global Cooperation at the Summit

As a gesture of international collaboration, Modi participated in a ceremonial group photograph with global leaders and notable figures in technology, including Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. Later, he engaged in a CEO Roundtable that focused on responsible scaling of AI and fostering global collaboration.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026, the first such global gathering hosted in the Global South, aims to bring together policymakers, industry experts, and civil society to promote responsible governance and inclusive technological advancements.
