PM Modi to Shift to New Office in Seva Teerth Complex from South Block After Makar Sankranti

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to relocate his office from the historic South Block to the newly constructed Seva Teerth complex near Raisina Hill after January 14, marking a historic transition in India’s administrative setup. If implemented, this will be the first time since Independence that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will function outside the South Block.

A Historic Departure from South Block

South Block has housed the PMO continuously since 1947 and has been closely associated with India’s post-Independence governance. The proposed move signals the end of an era for one of the most iconic power centres in the country. The relocation is likely to coincide with Makar Sankranti, symbolising a new beginning in the functioning of the Prime Minister’s Office.

Seva Teerth: The New Executive Enclave

The new office complex, officially known as the Executive Enclave or Seva Teerth, is located on Dara Shikoh Road, formerly Dalhousie Road, in central New Delhi. Developed under the Central Vista redevelopment project, Seva Teerth has been designed to consolidate major decision-making bodies within a single, modern administrative zone, enhancing coordination and efficiency.

Three Buildings for Core Decision-Making Bodies

The Seva Teerth complex comprises three separate structures. Seva Teerth-1 has been designated to house the Prime Minister’s Office, including the Prime Minister’s personal office and ceremonial spaces, which feature an expanded and more formal layout. Seva Teerth-2 already accommodates the Cabinet Secretariat, which shifted there in September last year. Seva Teerth-3 will host the National Security Council Secretariat and the office of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Central Vista Vision Takes Shape

The move aligns with the government’s broader Central Vista vision to modernise India’s central administrative infrastructure. Earlier, key ministries housed in North Block, including the Home Ministry and Finance Ministry, were shifted to Kartavya Bhavan. With the PMO’s relocation, the government aims to complete the transition towards a unified executive zone built to meet contemporary governance and security needs.
