PM Modi to Launch New Delhi Metro Corridors and Initiate Phase-V Expansion

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi public transport system is poised for a substantial enhancement as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to inaugurate two new corridors of the Delhi Metro and lay the groundwork for three additional projects within the national capital.

This expansion, which involves an investment exceeding Rs 18,300 crore, aims to improve connectivity, facilitate daily commuting, and alleviate road congestion across the city. The ongoing expansion is a component of the broader Delhi Metro project designed to extend services to various regions of Delhi and surrounding cities in the National Capital Region.

Details of the New Metro Corridors

During the event, Prime Minister Modi will open the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line as well as the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line. The Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur corridor stretches 12.3 kilometers and features eight elevated stations, contributing to the Pink Line’s total length of approximately 71.56 kilometers, thereby creating India’s first fully operational Ring Metro. This project also entails the construction of a new bridge over the Yamuna River along with a double-decker viaduct designed to accommodate both metro tracks and a roadway.

The extension of the Magenta Line from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park is anticipated to increase connectivity within northern and western Delhi. Certain segments of this corridor reach heights of approximately 28.36 meters, classifying it among the tallest elevated sections in the Delhi Metro. The stations along this corridor comprise Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa, and Majlis Park.

Phase-V Development Initiatives

In addition to inaugurating the new corridors, Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation for three metro corridors as part of Delhi Metro Phase-V (A). These new initiatives include the Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha Central Vista Corridor, an extension of the Golden Line from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and another extension of the Golden Line from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

The underground Central Vista corridor will span approximately 9.9 kilometers and include stations positioned near major landmarks such as Central Secretariat, India Gate, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha. The segment from Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal-1 is set to be a 2.26-kilometer underground stretch, while the Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj corridor will cover 3.9 kilometers as an elevated route, with stations at Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar, and Kalindi Kunj.

Enhancing Connectivity for Commuters in NCR

Officials have indicated that the expansion of the Delhi Metro will not only serve the city residents but will also enhance travel options for commuters from nearby NCR regions, including Noida, Faridabad, and Ballabhgarh. Those traveling from these areas will experience improved accessibility to the Indira Gandhi International Airport and central Delhi due to the enhanced metro connections.

The new corridors are expected to diminish road traffic and enhance the overall public transport framework in the capital. As these projects continue to progress, the Delhi Metro network is set to expand further, making daily travel easier and more efficient for millions of passengers.
