PM Modi to Launch Meerut Metro & Namo Bharat Train Services to Enhance Connectivity

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Meerut on Sunday to inaugurate the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train services at the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat station in western Uttar Pradesh. During this visit, the Prime Minister will also partake in a metro journey from Shatabdi Nagar to Meerut South station.

Scheduled for around 1 PM, the inauguration will include several development projects in Meerut valued at approximately Rs 12,930 crore. A public gathering is also planned for this occasion, as outlined in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Total Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to be Inaugurated

The Prime Minister will officially dedicate the complete 82-km stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor. He will unveil the final sections of India’s inaugural Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), which features a 5-km segment connecting Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, along with a 21-km section linking Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.

Designed for a speed of 180 km per hour, the Namo Bharat service aims to enhance connectivity between Delhi and significant urban centers including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut.

Multi-Modal Transport Hub

Sarai Kale Khan, the starting point of this new corridor, will be among four Namo Bharat stations that are being commissioned. This station is strategically located to function as a significant multi-modal transport hub, providing smooth connectivity to the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, the Pink Line of Delhi Metro, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, as well as the Ring Road. The other three newly commissioned stations, located in Meerut, include Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram.

Meerut Metro to Operate on Integrated Infrastructure

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Prime Minister will also launch the Meerut Metro services operating between Meerut South and Modipuram, utilizing the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat service.

The Meerut Metro is expected to be the fastest metro system in India, achieving a maximum operational speed of 120 km/h. The entire route will be completed in approximately 30 minutes, including all designated stops along the way.

Enhancements in Urban Mobility and Sustainability

The collaboration between the Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro systems is anticipated to provide swift intercity travel as well as efficient intracity transportation. This project sets a precedent for integrated urban and regional transit systems in India.

Aside from alleviating traffic congestion on major highways, the corridor aims to substantially lower vehicular carbon dioxide emissions, promoting a more sustainable urban transport framework. According to statements from the Prime Minister’s Office, these initiatives align with the government’s expansive vision to reshape urban mobility while enhancing the quality of life through modern and efficient public transport systems.
