PM Modi Retains Top Spot As World’s Most Popular Leader With 68% Approval: Survey

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a recent survey conducted by the US-based data analytics firm Morning Consult, Prime Minister Narendra Modi secured an approval rating of 68%, solidifying his position as the most popular democratic leader worldwide. The survey indicated that 26% of respondents expressed disapproval of Modi’s leadership, while 6% were undecided. The approval ratings are derived from a trailing seven-day simple moving average of public opinion among adults in the countries surveyed.

Comparison with Global Peers

PM Modi leads the global rankings by a significant margin. Following him is Guy Parmelin, the President of Switzerland, who achieved an approval rating of 62%. South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is ranked third with a similar approval rating, though he faced a higher disapproval rate compared to Modi. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney occupied the seventh position with a 55% approval rating. In contrast, French President Emmanuel Macron recorded the lowest score among the leaders surveyed, with an approval rating of just 17% and a disapproval rate of 75%.

Shift in Approval Ratings Over Time

The latest figures indicate a decline in Modi’s approval from the previous year, when he boasted a 75% approval rating in the same survey. This decrease highlights a shift in public perception over time, reflecting the dynamic nature of political leadership and public opinion in India and around the globe.

Digital Engagement and Influence

Earlier this year, PM Modi marked a significant milestone by becoming the first world leader to surpass 100 million followers on Instagram. This achievement not only underscores his extensive digital reach but also indicates ongoing engagement with a global audience, reinforcing his influence in the digital realm. Such milestones contribute to his stature as a prominent global leader.

Context of the Survey and Public Opinion

The Morning Consult survey captures the sentiments of a diverse range of adults across multiple nations, reflecting both support and dissent towards various leaders. The data gathered plays a crucial role in understanding the global political landscape and how different leaders are perceived by their constituents. As the political dynamics continue to evolve, such surveys serve as a barometer for measuring leadership approval and public satisfaction.
