Gulveer Singh has won the silver medal in the men’s 10,000m race at the Asian Games 2026, held at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on September 25. The 28-year-old Indian long-distance runner completed the race with a time of 28:29.38, finishing just behind Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who took the gold with a time of 28:27.51. Birhanu’s compatriot, Albert Kiptoo, added to Bahrain’s success by securing the bronze with a time of 28:34.38.

Throughout the race, Gulveer maintained a position with the front runners, remaining competitive as the race progressed. In the final stretch, Balew made a decisive move to gain the lead, but Gulveer managed to hold onto his position and comfortably finish second, thereby earning the silver medal.

This achievement marks a significant improvement for Gulveer, who won a bronze medal in the same event during the previous Asian Games held in Hangzhou in 2022. His consistent performance over the years has established him as a formidable contender in long-distance events.

Gulveer Singh’s Athletic Journey

Gulveer’s recent athletic accomplishments highlight his remarkable form. At the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, he claimed gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m disciplines. This success has bolstered his reputation and contributed to his status as one of India’s leading track athletes.

In addition to his achievements at the Asian Athletics Championships, he made his mark at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. There, he became the first Indian to earn two medals in track events during a single edition of the Games, taking silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5,000m.

Earlier in 2023, Gulveer had also added to his medal tally by winning a bronze in the men’s 5,000m at the Asian Athletics Championships held in Bangkok. His ongoing success continues to inspire athletes and fans alike in India.

Overall Medal Tally for India at the Games

Following Gulveer’s silver, India’s athletics contingent has also seen notable performances in other events. Pooja finished in sixth place in the women’s heptathlon 800m with a time of 2:16.43, while Anamika Aneesh secured an eighth-place finish. These results reflect the depth of talent within the Indian athletics team.

Additionally, India gained another medal in athletics on the same day, with Manpreet Kaur winning bronze in the women’s shot put. She achieved a personal best throw of 17.17m, while competitor Krishna Jayasankar Menon finished fifth with a throw of 16.57m. These performances contribute significantly to India’s overall standing in the Games.

As of now, India has amassed a total of 22 medals at the Asian Games, which include two gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze. With these accomplishments, India ranks 12th in the overall medal standings, showcasing the country’s growing prowess in athletics and other sporting disciplines.
