Two Farm Labourers Burnt Alive in Gujarat Over Financial Dispute, Suspects Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

Two farm labourers, including a 16-year-old boy, were tragically burnt alive in a vehicle on the outskirts of Gundaran village in Liliya taluka, Amreli district, early on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Ravi Badhel, aged 16, and Nitin Pachaya, aged 21. Both individuals were originally from Madhya Pradesh and had been working as agricultural labourers in the area. Their bodies were discovered in a partially burnt state within the charred remains of the vehicle.

Reports indicate that the two men were sleeping inside the pickup van parked at a farm when the incident occurred. Allegedly, the accused arrived during the night, poured petrol on the vehicle, and set it ablaze, resulting in the deaths of both occupants. Family members, including Ravi’s father, Kamlesh Badhel, rushed to the scene upon learning of the fire, but unfortunately, they were unable to save them.

The local police, along with forensic experts, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. They initiated an investigation into the double murder and recovered the bodies from the vehicle. An offence was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with other relevant legal provisions.

Arrests Made and Alleged Motive Uncovered

Within hours of the incident, police apprehended two individuals, including the alleged main perpetrator, Vinod Dodiyar, and his relative, Raju Dodiyar. Deputy Superintendent of Police Vismay Manseta stated that the murders are suspected to have arisen from a financial dispute regarding the purchase of the vehicle involved in the incident. Reports suggest that Vinod had acquired the vehicle on an instalment basis from a man named Riteshsinh, with an outstanding payment of Rs 30,000 still due.

According to preliminary investigations, Riteshsinh had transferred possession of the vehicle to Kamlesh, the father of one of the deceased, due to the unpaid amount. Riteshsinh allegedly informed Kamlesh that he was also owed money by Vinod and would resolve the matter once Vinod settled his dues. However, it appears that Vinod became enraged when he discovered the vehicle was in Kamlesh’s possession.

When Vinod approached Riteshsinh to demand either the return of the vehicle or a refund of the payments he had made, Riteshsinh reportedly declined both requests. Police believe that this dispute motivated Vinod and Raju to target the vehicle, seemingly unaware or indifferent to the fact that two individuals were inside it at the time.

Details of the Alleged Attack

As part of what police describe as a premeditated plan, the accused allegedly filled petrol into their motorcycle at a fuel station some distance from the crime scene. They then stopped near the farm, transferred petrol from the motorcycle’s tank into several small cans, and reportedly sprinkled it both inside and outside the vehicle before igniting it. Following the act, they fled the scene.

Kamlesh Badhel, the father of one of the victims, stated that the vehicle had remained in their possession due to the outstanding money owed by Riteshsinh. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic double murder, focusing on the financial transactions between the involved parties.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to gather more evidence and witness statements to fully understand the events leading up to this horrific incident. The community is left in shock as they come to terms with the loss of two young lives in such a brutal manner.
