P&G SEHAT Strengthens Primary Healthcare for Underserved Communities in Peninsular Villages and lslands Across Brahmaputra River in Assam Via Special Boat Clinic

P&G SEHAT, the healthcare focused Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Procter & Gamble Health Limited (P&G Health ) – makers of trusted healthcare brands like Neurobion, Evion, Livogen etc. is positively impacting over 20,000 people from underserved communities in 18 peninsular villages and 10 islands along the banks of river Brahmaputra in Assam, through its special boat clinic. Launched in 2025, the boat clinic initiative has been providing consistent maternal, child, and preventive healthcare to the communities. The initiative is also accelerating immunization uptake through active collaboration with the local primary health centres (PHC).

Staffed by trained medical professionals and equipped with a 6-bed ward, a mini operation theatre, a labor room, diagnostic lab and a pharmacy, the boat clinic has seen increasing demand for antenatal care and immunization since inception. Through this initiative, all registered pregnant women receive a minimum of three antenatal check-ups, thus strengthening early diagnosis, monitoring, and continuity of care. Further, the clinic also conducts special health camps and awareness sessions in the communities. The project leverages local residents as volunteers in the project areas. These volunteers play an important role in monitoring health parameters at the household level, mobilizing communities, encouraging follow-ups, and driving advanced communication regarding visits to the clinic, thus ensuring better service utilization and compliance.

Speaking about the initiative, Milind Thatte, Managing Director, P&G Health said, “The frequent changes in the course of the river Brahmaputra in Assam, and the unique terrain of the surrounding areas, make access to primary healthcare challenging for the local communities. P&G Sehat is continuing to work with its NGO partners to bridge this gap, and provide consistent, reliable and sustained health facilities to people in these underserved communities, through its special Boat Clinic. This is in line with our mission of providing quality healthcare and drive healthcare awareness in underserved communities across India.

The Boat Clinic model has also proved to be resilient in terms of its functionality, despite the changing river course, seasonal floods, and water levels of the Brahmaputra River. The medical teams on the ground use a combination of boat clinics, fishing boats, and land transport, if needed, to ensure continuity of outpatient services, immunization camps, and health awareness programs, even in adverse climatic conditions.”
