Pakistani Rupee (PKR) notes found lying on the streets in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar

The CSR Journal Magazine

Amid National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) disclosure on terror outfit The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) being funded from Pakistan and Malaysia ahead of Pahalgam Terror Attack, a shocking discovery has shaken West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district.

Pakistani currency notes were found on the roads in Ranirhat Gram Panchayat in Mekhliganj block under Mota Sanyasi police station area of Cooch Behar. A local shopkeeper found two Pakistani Rupee (PKR) notes of denomination 100 and 10 near Ranirhat market on Tuesday. He alerted local residents and informed the police, following which there has been a huge uproar in the area, especially because Cooch Behar shares border with another neighbouring country Bangladesh.

According to police, the youth named Prafulla Roy, went out to market on Tuesday night. Suddenly, he noticed two notes lying on the road. He picked up the notes thinking they were Indian Rupees. However, he was completely shocked after taking a closer look at the notes. ‘State Bank of Pakistan’ was written in bold letters on the note. Prafulla said, ‘I got a 100 rupee note and a 10 rupee note. The notes have text written in Urdu on them.’ The local youth claims that he only received two notes, but he does not know if there were more PKR notes scattered on the road.

Prafulla Roy, the businessman who found the notes, said on Wednesday, “I came to my shop around 8-8:30 last night. Then I saw notes lying on the road in front of my shop. I picked up the notes and saw that it was not ours, but Pakistani currency. I can’t understand where these notes came from. The police have been informed.”

Locals worried, sensation in the area

As soon as this incident became known, there was a huge sensation in the area. Speculations have also been created around the area about the incident. Locals claim that the administration should take this incident seriously. It should never be taken lightly, especially because the area is adjacent to Bangladesh border.

How did Pakistani notes land on the streets of a rural area like Mekhliganj? That is what is worrying the locals. Especially the area is sensitive because it is surrounded by the border. As a result, the people of the area are worried. The locals have demanded that the administration take immediate action in this regard. Police has started investigating the matter.

There is a Currency exchange counter in the nearby border town of Changrabandha. However, the counter authorities informed that Pakistani currency is not exchanged over there. As a result, questions are being raised about where the PKR notes came from.
