‘One Nation, One Constitution, One Flag’: Rajnath Singh at ‘Parivartan Yatra’ in West Bengal

The CSR Journal Magazine

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a stirring address during the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ held in Howrah, West Bengal, on March 2. He fervently urged citizens to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming assembly elections, rallying them with the slogan ‘One Nation, One Constitution, One Flag’. Singh articulated his belief that West Bengal is poised for significant change, a transformation that he advocates his party will deliver.

Singh depicted the rally as an emblematic expression of West Bengal’s “war cry” for transformation. He praised the state’s historical significance, referencing prominent figures such as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, emphasizing their contributions to the nation’s freedom struggle. He stated, “The soil of Bengal contains sacrifice and self-respect. The enthusiasm I see here indicates that the time for change has arrived.” He encouraged attendees not to overlook this pivotal moment, reframing the gathering as more than just a rally, but rather as a call to action for the people of Bengal.

The Defence Minister underscored the bravery inherent in Bengali history, recalling Bose’s famous declaration, “Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom.” He also referenced Mukherjee’s belief in the necessity of a singular system of governance, reiterating that his call for ‘One Nation, One Constitution, One Flag’ intends to unify the country’s legal and political framework. Singh proclaimed that the duality of governance was now a thing of the past, asserting that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India would move forward unified.

Political Strategy and Allegations

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also participated in the ‘Parivartan Yatra’, where he made pointed remarks aimed at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Shah characterized the term ‘Parivartan’, meaning ‘change’, as a commitment to eradicate infiltration and corruption in West Bengal, signaling a desire to replace the Trinamool Congress government with one led by the BJP. He clarified that the initiative was not solely about changing the position of the Chief Minister, but about delivering meaningful governmental reform for the state.

Shah responded to Banerjee’s assertions that the Yatra aimed at seizing power for the BJP. He maintained that the essence of ‘Parivartan’ is to liberate West Bengal from issues like illegal migration and corruption. He reminded the public that their decision to transition leadership would ultimately stem from the will of the people of West Bengal.

Further elaborating on the campaign’s scope, Shah announced that nine Yatras would traverse the state, with four of them already underway. The campaign kicked off from various locations including Siliguri, Nabadwip, Medinipur, and Purulia, marking an extensive effort by the BJP to strengthen its presence in West Bengal ahead of the elections.
