Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has called upon members to foster a conducive environment for the functioning of the House and reach a consensus regarding discussions on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. Speaking during the morning session on July 28, he encouraged members to engage in constructive debate. Birla emphasised that the Parliament should project a positive image to the nation through open discourse.

He stated, “Let the House function; let there be discussion and dialogue, and let everyone’s views be expressed. Let a positive message go out to the entire country that discussion and dialogue take place in Parliament.” He confirmed that an understanding had been reached concerning the commencement of discussions on the proposed legislation at 2 pm, urging all members to cooperate for an organised debate.

Disruptions Continue in Both Houses

Despite Birla’s appeals, the proceedings were disrupted across both Houses during the morning session. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned following vocal protests from opposition members, while the Lok Sabha also adjourned until 2 pm. These disruptions have been a recurring theme during the Monsoon Session, with opposition parties demanding discussions on issues related to police actions against students protesting examination irregularities.
