NTPC Mouda Initiates 1.4 MW Solar Power Project to Boost Renewable Energy

The CSR Journal Magazine

NTPC Mouda marked a significant step in its renewable energy initiatives with the start of solar panel installation for a 1.4 MW ground-mounted solar power plant. This advancement follows the successful completion of the superstructure works required for the project.

The initiative is a part of NTPC’s comprehensive strategy to enhance its renewable energy capabilities, aligning with the Government of India’s aim to increase the contribution of clean energy within the nation’s overall power generation framework.

A ceremony featuring senior officials from NTPC and project partners was held to celebrate the installation of the first solar panels, officially transitioning the project from the construction phase to the equipment installation stage.

Environmental Impact and Capacity Expansion

Once operational, the solar power plant is anticipated to augment NTPC Mouda’s renewable energy capacity significantly while lessening the reliance on traditional electricity sources. This development is believed to have a favourable impact on cleaner energy generation and aligns with NTPC’s long-term sustainability objectives.

According to NTPC, the plant is projected to produce around 2.7 million units of clean electricity annually. This output is expected to prevent approximately 2,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions each year, contributing to a notable reduction in the environmental footprint of the township and supporting India’s climate action goals.

The implementation of this project is estimated to cost ₹5.80 crore, furthering NTPC’s ongoing commitment to integrate renewable energy solutions into its framework.

Future Goals and Achievements

Upon completion of the solar power facility, NTPC Mouda Township is anticipated to achieve the status of a Net Zero Energy Township, fulfilling its annual electricity requirements through renewable sources. The township has already earned recognition as a Net Zero Water Township, thanks to various water conservation and management strategies.

NTPC has been consistently working to expand its renewable energy portfolio throughout India, reflecting its long-term strategy to diversify its energy mix and facilitate a transition towards a low-carbon economy. The Mouda solar project is expected to reinforce the company’s clean energy agenda while contributing to India’s objectives for sustainable development.

This initiative underlines the commitment of NTPC towards fostering a sustainable energy landscape in India, as it strives to align its operations with environmental goals and the global focus on renewable energy.
