The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a travel advisory for candidates set to take the UGC NET 2026 re-examinations scheduled for September 9 and 10 in Delhi. This advisory comes in light of anticipated traffic restrictions due to the 18th BRICS Summit taking place in the capital from September 11 to 13. The NTA has urged candidates to plan their journeys meticulously to ensure timely arrival at their examination centres.

The agency has specifically indicated that candidates should familiarise themselves with their routes, allowing for considerable travel time given the expected disruptions. It is essential for examinees to be cognisant of potential delays and to avoid any last-minute hassles.

Furthermore, the advisory states that candidates must adhere to instructions detailed on their admit cards, including the required reporting times. Proper planning and foresight are strongly emphasised to mitigate any inconvenience that could arise from the ongoing summit-related activities in the city.

Reasons Behind the Re-Test

The NTA’s decision to conduct re-examinations for certain subjects stems from complaints received regarding the UGC NET June 2026, which took place between June 22 and 30 across 87 subjects. This initial examination aimed at assessing candidates for Junior Research Fellowship, as well as eligibility for assistant professor roles and admission to PhD programmes.

Upon receiving feedback from candidates regarding inaccuracies in the examination papers for English, Sociology, and Commerce, the NTA constituted a committee to investigate these claims. The committee’s findings revealed several mistakes, including factual inaccuracies, typographical errors, incorrect names of prominent scholars, and issues with grammatical structures and punctuation. In particular, instances of repeated questions were also identified.

As a result, the re-conduct of the English and Commerce exams has been scheduled for September 9, while the Sociology examination is set for September 10. The measures taken reflect the NTA’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and reliability of the examination process.

Impact of the BRICS Summit on Travel

The upcoming BRICS Summit is expected to significantly affect traffic flow in New Delhi, particularly around key venues where summit activities will be held. Security arrangements are being implemented extensively to accommodate the influx of delegates and officials attending the summit from September 11 to 13. Consequently, the NTA emphasises the importance of candidates leaving for their examination centres earlier than usual.
