NIA searches Anantnag forest in Kashmir where explosives were tested ahead of Delhi blast

The CSR Journal Magazine

As the National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigates the Delhi Red Fort blast case, unknown details and shocking information is coming forward. A car blast on November 10 near the Red Fort in Delhi had left 13 people dead and several injured.

It is now known that the Delhi blast was planned well in advance. According to investigation sources, the accused Dr Umar Mohammad had tested the bomb in the forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag before the blast in Delhi. Only after the test was successful, the bomb was taken to Delhi. A NIA team on Tuesday carried out searches in the Hutmurah forest area of Anantnag district as part of its probe.

Two doctors Adil Rather and Jasir Bilal Wani were arrested in connection with the white-collar terror module linked to the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit. On Tuesday, investigators from Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and NIA went to the Anantnag forest along with them. The place where the bomb was tested was identified after searching three locations thoroughly. Investigators have recovered several items related to the bomb test including a damaged gas cylinder. It is also known that doctor Umar had taken shelter in this forest for several days.

Dr Rather’s interrogation led to the recovery of 2,900kg of explosives from a rented accommodation of Dr Muzamil Shakeel of Al Falah University in Haryana’s Faridabad district. Officials are also probing the role of Dr Rather’s brother, Dr Muzaffar Rather, who is believed to have shifted to Dubai earlier this year.

A resident of Qazigund in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag, Jasir Bilal Wani was arrested in Srinagar by the NIA on November 17 for allegedly providing technical support for carrying out attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the deadly November 10 car blast that killed 13 people near Red Fort in Delhi.

Earlier, thorough searches were being conducted in Ganderbal in Kashmir and Batamaloo in Srinagar to find out where the explosives for the Delhi blasts were supplied from. In addition, searches were also conducted at the residence of Tufail Niyaz Bhat, who was arrested in the Delhi blasts. However, it is not yet known whether anything suspicious was recovered from there. Incidentally, this Tufail was also linked to militant doctor Adil Ahmed Rather.

On November 7, an AK-47 rifle was recovered from Dr Rather’s locker at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Anantnag, where he worked as a senior resident until October 24, 2024. It is alleged that it was Tufail who delivered a rifle to him. On the other hand, investigators also searched the house of another accused landowner in Wakura village today. Not only the explosives for the blasts, but also the weapons cache of the ‘white collar’ militant module is being searched in the valley.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started searches and arrests at several places across the country in the investigation into the Delhi blasts. Several doctors have also been arrested from different parts of the country, including Srinagar, during the investigation. Most of the ‘jihadi’ doctors arrested in the case till now hail from Kashmir.
