NIA raids residence of migrant worker in West Bengal’s Murshidabad in connection with Delhi blast

The CSR Journal Magazine

Name of a migrant worker based in West Bengal’s Murshidabad has emerged in the Delhi blast case! National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday raided the residence of the migrant labourer Moinul Hassan in Murshidabad’s Nabagram. The investigating agency is conducting searches across the country in the investigation of the blast case. Murshidabad’s name is also now added to that list. Searches were conducted at Moinul’s house throughout the day on Wednesday. Investigators visited different areas of Murshidabad. There was intense tension in the area. Sources said that the operation was based on specific information.

Moinul’s Bangladesh connection under scanner

Moinul, a resident of Murshidabad’s Nabagram, is a migrant worker. He has worked in Delhi and Mumbai. It is learned that Moinul Hassan used to live together with a Bangladeshi citizen while working in Delhi. Allegedly, Moinul has been in contact with that Bangladeshi citizen for a long time. The NIA is investigating whether the migrant worker from Murshidabad had contact with members of any militant organisation at that time. The NIA officially took over the investigation of the incident after the blast in Delhi. The investigating agency got Moinul’s phone number during the investigation. However, no arrests have been made so far.

Delhi Red Fort blast

A horrific blast shook Delhi on Monday evening. At least 13 people died in that incident. However, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that none of the conspirators will be spared. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the injured victims in the hospital and vowed that those responsible for the “conspiracy” would be brought to justice. Delhi Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act.

The car was reportedly driven by Dr. Umar Nabi, a Pulwama-based doctor and assistant professor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, who is believed to have died in the blast. The explosion has been linked to a “white-collar” terror module, allegedly involving the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind outfits, that was recently busted by police. Earlier raids in Faridabad, Haryana, led to the recovery of nearly 3,000 kg of explosives and the arrest of eight people, including three doctors.

Initial findings suggest the explosive device may have detonated accidentally due to panic after police raids and arrests of Nabi’s associates. Investigators recovered a second car (a red Ford EcoSport) linked to the suspect in Haryana on Wednesday.

Security has been heightened across major Indian cities and airports. Major airports, including Delhi Airport, received bomb threats (later declared hoaxes) on Wednesday, leading to high alert status. The Red Fort and the nearby Lal Quila metro station remain closed for the public.
