NEET Re-Test: Delhi, Bihar and Other States Offer Free Travel Facilities

The CSR Journal Magazine

The upcoming NEET UG 2026 re-examination, scheduled for June 21, has prompted several state governments to implement free or subsidised travel options for students. This initiative is aimed at assisting lakhs of students who are preparing to reach their designated examination centres. The measures come in light of the cancellation of the original examination date, which was set for May 3, necessitating a nationwide re-test.

Many states have chosen to provide free travel using state-run bus services, offering a significant relief to students and their families. In contrast, Uttar Pradesh has opted for a different approach, instituting a 50 per cent concession on bus fares instead of offering free travel.

Detailed Travel Support Across Various States

A range of states have announced specific transport benefits to facilitate travel for NEET candidates. In Delhi, students are eligible for free travel on all DTC buses by presenting their NEET admit card on June 21. Similarly, candidates in Punjab can utilise Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC buses at no cost from June 20-22, and they are permitted to bring one accompanying person.

In Andhra Pradesh, free travel will be available on APSRTC buses on June 21 for those who show their admit card. Odisha is also providing support, with free travel on OSRTC buses for students heading to one of the 134 examination centres. In Uttarakhand, permanent residents can take advantage of free travel on ordinary state transport buses two days before and two days after the examination.

Bihar has introduced an expansive scheme, allowing travellers to utilise various categories of BSRTC buses without charge. This applies to AC, non-AC, electric, deluxe, and luxury buses from June 20 until one day after the exam. Candidates are required to present their admit cards and provide basic personal details to obtain a zero-fare ticket. This initiative aims to ensure that all districts, as well as neighbouring states, can be easily accessed by students.

Objectives Behind the Travel Initiatives

The announcement of free travel services by various state governments aligns with a common objective: to relieve financial burdens on students and their families during what is considered a pivotal day. Officials have highlighted the importance of reducing transportation obstacles, allowing students to concentrate fully on their examination preparations.

To avail themselves of these travel benefits, candidates must ensure they carry a printed admit card, which acts as the eligibility document for the initiatives across participating states. The measures reflect a broader commitment to facilitating access to education and supporting students in their academic pursuits.

The implementation of such travel assistance showcases the collaborative efforts of state governments to provide logistical support, ensuring that the examination process is as smooth as possible amid the ongoing challenges. As students prepare for this critical re-test, the measures in place aim to make their journeys less stressful and more convenient.
