India’s billionaire community is expanding, showcasing its growing economic influence both domestically and internationally. The latest Hurun Global Rich List for 2026 identifies 308 billionaires in India, with their collective wealth estimated at approximately Rs 112 lakh crore. This positions India as the third-largest country for billionaires globally, following the United States and China. The report indicates that wealth generation in India is diversifying beyond traditional sectors such as technology and pharmaceuticals, with emerging billionaires from industries like automobiles, healthcare, energy, and financial services. The list highlights several prominent figures who continue to lead the ranks.

Mukesh Ambani: India’s Wealthiest Individual

Mukesh Ambani retains his status as India’s richest individual and also ranks as the wealthiest person in Asia. His net worth surged by around 9% over the past year, reaching Rs 9.8 lakh crore. Ambani is at the helm of Reliance Industries, a conglomerate engaged in various sectors including petrochemicals, energy, telecommunications, and retail. In recent years, the company has broadened its focus into sectors like digital services and consumer products, reinforcing its influence in the Indian economy. At 68 years old and based in Mumbai, Ambani has consistently led wealth rankings in India, a testament to the vast and diverse portfolio of Reliance.

Gautam Adani: A Notable Industrialist

Gautam Adani holds the second position on the wealth list, despite experiencing a decline in his wealth over the past year. His net worth decreased by approximately 14%, currently estimated at Rs 7.5 lakh crore, as per the Hurun listing. Adani is the chairman of the Adani Group, which operates across various sectors such as ports, airports, energy, logistics, and infrastructure. The industrialist, aged 63 and based in Ahmedabad, remains a significant figure in India’s industrial landscape, even as his fortunes have diminished.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra: Representing Women in Wealth

Occupying the third spot is Roshni Nadar Malhotra and her family, with an estimated wealth of around Rs 3.2 lakh crore. Although her fortune has decreased by about 10% compared to the previous year, she continues to maintain a prominent presence among India’s wealthiest. Roshni leads HCL Technologies, one of the country’s largest IT service firms. At 44, she stands out as the only woman classified among the ten richest individuals in India and has been pivotal in propelling HCL’s global technological endeavors from her base in New Delhi.

Cyrus S Poonawalla: Healthcare Magnate

Cyrus S Poonawalla and his family have ascended to the fourth position this year, with their wealth experiencing a remarkable increase of 44%, now estimated at approximately Rs 3 lakh crore. As the founder of the Serum Institute of India, which is recognized as the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer by volume, Poonawalla gained substantial acclaim globally during the COVID-19 pandemic. At 84, he continues to play an influential role in the healthcare industry from Pune.

Kumar Mangalam Birla: A Dynamic Business Leader

Completing the top five is Kumar Mangalam Birla and his family, whose wealth has risen by 22% to approximately Rs 2.5 lakh crore. Birla chairs the Aditya Birla Group, a diversified conglomerate operating in sectors such as metals, cement, telecommunications, financial services, and fashion retail. At 58 years of age and based in Mumbai, he has overseen considerable expansion initiatives both within India and internationally.
