Mobile Game Challenge? 35 Students Slash Their Hands Together in Chhattisgarh School

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a troubling occurrence in Dahdaha village, located in the Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh, 35 students have allegedly inflicted cuts on their wrists using blades within their school grounds.

This incident appears to stem from a pattern of imitation among the students, and the reasons behind these actions remain unclear. The injuries were discovered on February 13, when parents noticed the marks and promptly alerted the school administration, who then involved district officials in the matter.

Composition of Injured Students Raises Concerns

The students involved include 21 boys and 14 girls from Classes 6 to 8, all of whom reportedly harmed themselves after mimicking one another. This alarming behavior persisted for nearly a month before it was finally brought to light, prompting outrage and demanding accountability from the school’s management regarding the safety and supervision of students.

Parental Outrage and Questions of Safety

Parents have expressed their anger, questioning how the blades were able to reach the students and why visible injuries went unnoticed for such an extended period. There are growing concerns that external factors, such as a rise in substance abuse in the region, may be influencing these actions among the youth.

School’s Response and Safety Measures

In response to the incident, school authorities have stated that they are now implementing enhanced safety measures. However, the significant delay in recognizing the issue has drawn severe criticism from various stakeholders. This situation has prompted discussions regarding the monitoring and safety protocols in place in government schools.

Investigation and Health Assessments Underway

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nabh Singh has stated that preliminary investigations, including consultations with the affected students and a review of parents’ cell phones, have ruled out the involvement of gaming challenges or intoxication. Singh noted, “When we got to know about the incident on February 13, we sent a team for counselling of the students who were part of this. There is no gaming challenge associated with this. Upon speaking with the students, we have also ruled out addiction at this stage.”

Nature of the Injuries Revealed

Officials have indicated that the nature of the cuts sustained by the students is not severe and are classified as superficial. The situation continues to unfold, with authorities working to establish a clearer understanding of the underlying causes of this concerning behavior among the students.
