Microsoft has announced a special anniversary edition of its flagship gaming console, the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition, celebrating 25 years of the Xbox brand. Designed as a tribute to the original Xbox that launched in North America on November 15, 2001, the console combines modern gaming technology with nostalgic design elements that long-time fans will instantly recognize.

The announcement is part of Microsoft’s broader celebration of the Xbox brand’s enduring influence on the gaming industry over the past quarter-century.

Inspired by the Original Xbox

The standout feature of the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition is its translucent “OG Green” finish, a nod to the iconic design language associated with the first-generation Xbox. The semi-transparent exterior allows users to glimpse some of the console’s internal components, adding a distinctive retro-futuristic look.

When powered on, the illuminated green “X” logo on the front recreates the spirit of the original Xbox startup experience. Microsoft has also incorporated a special 25th Anniversary emblem and several hidden design details intended to reward dedicated fans familiar with the console’s history.

Special Controller Pays Tribute to the ‘Duke’

Alongside the console, Microsoft has introduced the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition. The controller mirrors the translucent green aesthetic of the console while incorporating several throwback design elements.

The classic colored ABXY buttons return, while the bumpers pay homage to the black and white buttons featured on the original “Duke” controller. The transparent rear casing reveals the classic Xbox logo near the battery compartment, further strengthening the connection to the brand’s roots.

Microsoft has confirmed that both the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console and the anniversary controller will be available in select markets beginning in November. For gamers who may not want to purchase the console, the controller will also be sold separately.
