A tragic incident unfolded in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, where a man allegedly killed his wife and two priests, leading to a seven-hour police standoff. According to ADG Naveen Arora, police successfully rescued three children during the tense situation that arose at the family residence. The children were reportedly found suffering from trauma, dehydration, and one child had sustained a gunshot wound.

The confrontation began when the accused, identified as Arvind, refused to exit his home, insisting that the police wait until morning. His refusals escalated to violence when he opened fire on the police, which compelled officials to take action for the safety of the children involved.

“In the course of the operation, it became clear that the children were in danger. Although the situation was delicate, we managed to ensure their safety,” stated Arora, highlighting the injuries faced by the children and the quick response of the police team.

Police Response and Rescue Operation

The police exercised restraint during the initial part of the standoff, but the conditions changed when the accused began firing from inside the house. ADG Arora explained that following the gunfire, members of the police force, including the Senior Superintendent of Police, were compelled to breach the premises. They employed tactics such as stun grenades and tear gas to disorient the suspect.

“The operation was executed with precision. We focused on rescuing the children while utilising minimal retaliatory force,” Arora noted. The son who had suffered a gunshot wound was the first to be rescued, followed closely by his two sisters. These actions ultimately ensured that all three children were brought to safety.

“Sadly, the accused sustained critical injuries during the confrontation and was also taken to hospital. Legal proceedings against him will commence, with multiple charges pending, including three counts of murder,” Arora confirmed.
