IndiGo’s flight services have not yet returned to normal. Amid severe flight disruptions nationwide leading to harassment of lakhs of passengers, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has targeted the Centre for the IndiGo fiasco. Mamata said, “This problem could have been avoided if it had been planned in advance, I don’t understand what the Centre is doing, the BJP only wants to seize power.”
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee went on a two-day visit to Cooch Behar on Monday. Speaking to reporters before her flight took off, the Chief Minister expressed her anger over the Indigo crisis and passenger harassment.
Mamata Banerjee has been vocal about the Indigo disruption for the past week. The cancellation of Indigo flights is a national disaster for which the Centre is responsible, according to the CM. Expressing anger over the IndiGo outage, Mamata Banerjee today alleged that the situation has become a stalemate due to the excessive pressure on the pilots by the central government’s orders, and ordinary passengers are suffering the most.
The Chief Minister said, “Passengers are being harassed. If there is excessive pressure on the pilots, action should definitely be taken in this regard. But before giving any instructions, alternative arrangements should have been made. The common man should have been considered.”
Mamata claimed that the sudden change in rules has completely disrupted the normal movement of people. The Chief Minister said, “The price of a ticket of Rs 3000 has become Rs 50,000. I heard that a bride and groom were not able to attend their own wedding ceremony. I have never seen such a deadlock. This is a disaster.”
She alleged that the Centre has issued instructions without making any alternative arrangements, due to which thousands of passengers have been stuck at the airport for the last seven-eight days. “Who gave the right to harass the common man like this?” The Chief Minister questioned adding, “It is not enough to just tell them to take trains instead of planes. There are no tickets even in trains. At least make arrangements so that even half the flights can be operated. I don’t know what they are doing. They have no concern for the country. The BJP government is concerned about how to capture votes and EVMs. We think about the people.”
