Mahindra Reports 14% Increase in SUV Sales for September 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mahindra and Mahindra has announced a 14 per cent year-on-year rise in domestic SUV sales for September 2026, with the company selling a total of 64,092 utility vehicles during the month. This marks a significant increase from the previous year, when 56,233 units were sold in September 2025. The growth in the SUV segment has been pivotal in boosting the company’s overall performance.

During the same month, the total vehicle sales, which include both domestic and export figures, reached 1,14,874 units, representing a 15 per cent increase compared to the previous year’s figures. The growth in sales has been entirely attributed to the utility vehicle portfolio, as no passenger cars or vans were reported in the domestic sales for this period.

Strong Year-to-Date Performance Highlights for Mahindra

Mahindra’s performance in the current fiscal year remains robust, with a notable uptick in sales for its utility vehicle segment. In the period from April to September 2026, the automaker recorded sales of 3,58,142 utility vehicles in the domestic market, which is a 20 per cent increase over the 2,97,570 units sold during the same timeframe last year. This solid performance underscores Mahindra’s strong positioning in the Indian automotive market.

The company’s commercial vehicle segment also experienced growth in September. Sales of light commercial vehicles below 2 tonnes amounted to 4,044 units, reflecting a 19 per cent rise from the 3,386 units sold in September 2025. Additionally, sales of commercial vehicles in the 2-tonne to 3.5-tonne category increased by 13 per cent year-on-year, amounting to 26,376 units compared to 23,342 units the previous year.

Furthermore, the three-wheeler segment has demonstrated robust growth, including electric three-wheelers, which saw an impressive rise of 26 per cent. September 2026 saw sales increase to 16,343 units, up from 13,017 units reported in September 2025. Year-to-date figures for three-wheelers show a significant growth of 53 per cent, with total sales reaching 82,058 units.

Milestone Achievements and Export Trends

Dr Velusamy R, President of Automotive Business at Mahindra & Mahindra, remarked on the performance for September, stating that the SUV sales had grown by 14 per cent year-on-year, while total vehicle sales rose by 15 per cent. In addition to these impressive sales figures, Mahindra achieved a significant milestone, surpassing the sales of 1 lakh Electric Origin SUVs since their introduction.

Despite the robust growth in domestic sales, Mahindra’s export figures showed a decline of 7 per cent year-on-year in September, with 4,019 units exported, down from 4,320 units in the same month of the previous year. However, on a cumulative basis for the fiscal year from April to September 2026, total exports stood at 30,031 units, reflecting an increase of 48 per cent compared to the 20,303 units exported during the corresponding period last year.

This mixed performance regarding exports suggests a need for further analysis and potential strategic adjustments moving forward, as Mahindra continues to strengthen its presence in both domestic and international markets.
