Mahindra Launches XUV 3XO CNG at Rs 9.99 Lakh, Promises 24.7km/kg Mileage

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mahindra has officially launched the XUV 3XO CNG, expanding its range with a factory-fitted CNG option. This new variant introduces a dual-fuel powertrain to the compact SUV segment, with prices starting at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings and deliveries are set to begin on October 20, 2026. The CNG model will be available in four different variants, adding a new choice for consumers looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle.

This launch marks Mahindra’s re-entry into the passenger vehicle CNG market, following its previous offerings like the KUV100 Trip. The XUV 3XO CNG complements the existing petrol, diesel, and electric options already available in the lineup, thereby catering to a broader audience.

Engine Specifications and Performance

The XUV 3XO CNG is equipped with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder MPFI turbo-petrol engine, designed to operate on both petrol and CNG. Mahindra claims that the engine delivers an output of 111 horsepower and 200Nm of torque in either fuel mode. Enhanced turbocharger calibration and engine control unit (ECU) mapping have been implemented to optimise performance across both fuel types.

This variant is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, contributing to its driving dynamics. The manufacturer asserts that the SUV achieves a fuel efficiency of 24.7km/kg, although actual mileage may vary based on driving conditions and user habits. An automatic switch to petrol is also available when CNG levels become low, ensuring a seamless driving experience.

In contrast to traditional CNG setups that often compromise luggage space, the XUV 3XO employs a dual-cylinder storage arrangement. This innovative design allows the vehicle to maintain a claimed boot capacity of 270 litres, while the spare wheel is conveniently located underneath the vehicle.

Design Features and Variants

The CNG variant retains the exterior styling and interior layout of the standard XUV 3XO. A distinctive ‘ZNG’ badge on the tailgate differentiates it from the petrol and diesel models. The availability of features varies according to the selected variant, providing options for consumers with different preferences.

Depending on the trim level, features may include 16-inch alloy wheels, a body-coloured grille, LED projector headlamps, daytime running lights, and connected LED tail-lamps. Additionally, the dual-fuel system provides dedicated fuel-level information for both petrol and CNG, enhancing user convenience.

Market Competition

The XUV 3XO CNG enters a competitive market segment that includes models such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG and the Tata Nexon iCNG. The Brezza CNG is priced between Rs 9.4 lakh and Rs 11.6 lakh, while the Nexon CNG ranges from Rs 8.35 lakh to Rs 13.42 lakh, according to the latest pricing information.

With its turbocharged engine, six-speed manual transmission, and efficient dual-cylinder packaging, the XUV 3XO CNG presents a unique option for buyers interested in a factory-fitted CNG compact SUV. Its success will largely depend on real-world fuel efficiency, usable boot space, and performance in comparison to established competitors in the market.

As the automotive landscape continues to evolve towards more sustainable options, the introduction of the XUV 3XO CNG could play a significant role in Mahindra’s strategy to attract environmentally conscious consumers.
