A shocking case of medical negligence has come to light from a district hospital in Panna, Madhya Pradesh. Here, an 11-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital. However the hospital staff administered an expired RL (Ringer Lactate) IV bottle.

According to a India Today report, the intravenous solution, used for fluid replenishment, had passed its expiration date in March 2025. In addition to this, the replacement bottle brought in by hospital staff was also reportedly expired, dated June 2025.

Family Alleges Negligence

Furthermore, the child’s family reported that his health began to deteriorate, This comes shortly after the IV was administered. Upon checking the bottle, they discovered the expiry date had long passed. They immediately alerted the nurse on-duty. She confirmed the bottle was expired and removed it immediately.

However, their shock turned to outrage when the next bottle fetched was also outdated. The child’s family alleged negligence, stating, “Serious negligence has been committed towards the child’s health. No doctor has come to see him yet.”

Expired Injections Spark Panic at ESI Hospital, Lucknow

In a similar disturbing case, just two weeks prior, patients at ESI Hospital in Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow, were administered expired injections. Four admitted individuals reportedly suffered sudden health complications. This comes after they were given Ciflox injections that had expired in November 2024.

According to a patient’s son, his mother was admitted for abdominal pain. He further stated that she was administered the expired injection via an IV. “We noticed her discomfort increasing. Upon checking the vial, we saw the expiry date. It had been months,” he said.

Another relative claimed that when they raised concerns with hospital staff, a doctor allegedly dismissed them, stating that expired medicines “cause no harm.” However, the fear and anxiety caused by the situation led to an uproar in the hospital. This prompted immediate police intervention to restore order in the hospital.

Systemic Oversight or Institutional Apathy?

Both incidents are shocking and have highlighted glaring flaws in hospital inventory management and oversight. Despite regulatory protocols requiring routine checks of medication and equipment, these oversights have endangered lives and shattered public trust.

Meanwhile, the authorities have promised detailed inquiry in both states and have promised strict action.
