The Jharkhand High Court has postponed its hearing regarding petitions that challenge the cancellation of recruitment examinations and appointments by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The hearing will now take place on September 18, as the state government requested additional time to submit its affidavit.

The court had previously instructed the state government to file this affidavit by September 7; however, the government was unable to comply within that timeframe. The deferment has drawn attention to the ongoing issues surrounding the recruitment process in Jharkhand.

In a related development, the Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested two individuals implicated in distinct cases of alleged misconduct concerning competitive exams. The arrests underscore the seriousness of the ongoing investigations into fraud in the recruitment process.

Arrests Made Over Alleged Examination Irregularities

The CID apprehended Sanjeet Kumar, who is reportedly associated with Shivangan Coaching Centre, in connection with the 14th JPSC preliminary examination. Kumar is accused of serving as an intermediary and collecting money from candidates by guaranteeing assistance in passing the exam. This incident highlights the rising concern over corruption within educational assessments in the state.

These arrests come amidst increasing scrutiny in the recruitment process, as officials aim to rectify the alleged irregularities that have stirred public unrest. The behaviour exhibited by individuals like Kumar has raised questions about the integrity of the examination system and the future of recruitment in Jharkhand.

In light of these events, the Jharkhand High Court had previously ordered a stay on the state government’s cancellation of appointments for employees recruited through the 11th to 13th JPSC examinations, indicating that the legal battles surrounding these matters are far from over.

Supreme Court Takes Notice of Alleged Irregularities

A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana, sought responses from the relevant state authorities in response to a plea filed by social activist Harisharan Devgan. This legal move is significant as it reflects growing concerns among the public and advocacy groups regarding the credibility of recruitment processes in government services.

Senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra, representing the petitioner, pointed out that students have been persistently protesting these issues. The plea suggests that the Supreme Court should mandate a new preliminary examination, ensuring that safeguards approved by the court are in place to prevent future irregularities.

The rising turbulence around the JPSC and JSSC recruitment processes has generated considerable public agitation. Amidst escalating scrutiny and investigation, the future of these examinations and related appointments remains uncertain, as stakeholders await developments in the ensuing hearings.
