Lucknow Student Shoots Father Dead; Hides his Chopped Body in Drum

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 21-year-old BCom student, Akshat Singh, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his father, Manvendra Pratap Singh, at their Lucknow residence. What initially appeared to be a case driven by academic stress has now revealed a more complex family dispute linked to a prior jewellery theft.

Missing Complaint Turned Murder Probe

Manvendra, 50, a businessman who operated Vardhman Pathology and owned multiple liquor shops, was reported missing on February 20. Following a search, police discovered his dismembered body concealed inside a plastic drum at their home. Suspicion soon fell on his son, leading to Akshat’s arrest.

Jewellery Theft Sparked Suspicion

Investigators revealed that jewellery had gone missing from the house nearly four months earlier. Manvendra had initially filed a police complaint against a domestic worker. However, after the worker was cleared, he allegedly began suspecting his son.

In an effort to shield Akshat from legal consequences, Manvendra withdrew the complaint but reportedly began closely monitoring his activities, creating tension between them.

Academic Pressure or Family Conflict?

Family members told police that Akshat had failed the NEET medical entrance exam twice despite coaching and had completed his schooling at La Martiniere College. While early reports highlighted academic stress, police now believe the fallout from the theft and heightened parental scrutiny may have been the primary trigger.

Forensic Analysis in Progress

Police say Akshat allegedly shot his father on February 22, dismembered the body, and hid it in a drum inside the house. Forensic and ballistic examinations are underway as investigators work to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Authorities describe the case as a disturbing mix of alleged theft, strained family relations, academic setbacks, and a carefully concealed crime.
