LoP Rahul Gandhi Calls Union Minister Ravneet Bittu a ‘Traitor’ in Heated Clash

The CSR Journal Magazine

A verbal altercation took place on Tuesday between Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Minister of State, Ravneet Singh Bittu, near one of the entry gates of the Parliament complex. The incident occurred as several Congress MPs were protesting near the Makar Dwar of the Parliament premises.

Protest by Congress Leaders Outside Parliament

Congress leaders had gathered outside the Makar Dwar to demonstrate over various issues, including demands for a discussion on the situation in Manipur and other matters of national interest. During the protest, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress MPs were seen expressing their opposition to recent government policies and seeking parliamentary debate on key issues.

Exchange Between Rahul Gandhi and Ravneet Bittu

While passing by the protesting MPs, Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu was confronted by Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi reportedly referred to Bittu as a “traitor” in Hindi, remarks that were captured on camera and circulated on social media platforms. Rahul Gandhi is heard saying, “Dekho, ek gaddar yahin se guzar raha hai. Iska chehra dekho…” (Look, a traitor is passing by. Look at his face…).

In response to the comment, Ravneet Bittu strongly objected and dismissed Gandhi’s accusation. He refused to shake hands with the Congress leader and retorted by calling him “desh ka dushman” (enemy of the nation). The situation briefly escalated as both leaders exchanged sharp words, drawing the attention of nearby MPs and security personnel.

Political Background of the Dispute

Ravneet Singh Bittu, who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was earlier associated with the Congress and had served as a Member of Parliament from the party in previous terms. His departure from the Congress and subsequent induction into the Union Council of Ministers has been a point of friction between him and several Congress leaders.

Rahul Gandhi and other top Congress functionaries have publicly criticised Bittu’s shift to the BJP, terming it a betrayal of party principles. Tuesday’s confrontation reflects the wider political tensions playing out in the aftermath of recent developments in national politics.

Security Presence and Reactions

Following the exchange, Parliament security personnel were seen maintaining a close watch on the situation to ensure that the protest remained peaceful. No physical altercation was reported, and the protest continued for some time without further incident.

Neither Gandhi nor Bittu issued an official statement following the incident. Parliament proceedings, meanwhile, continued amid tight security and ongoing demands from the opposition for a structured debate in the House.
