Kishau Dam Project to Benefit Delhi and Other States, Says CM Dhami

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Kishau Dam project, situated across Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, is set to significantly enhance water supply and electricity generation, according to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He highlighted that the project will provide essential drinking water to regions including Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. This initiative is crucial for addressing water scarcity and aims to improve the overall water management in these states.

Impact on the Yamuna River

During a recent statement, Dhami emphasised the environmental importance of the Kishau Dam, particularly its potential to aid in the cleaning of the Yamuna River. He remarked that the project’s implementation will not only provide drinking water but will also contribute to the river’s restoration. Dhami expressed optimism that a cleaner Yamuna would subsequently lead to improvements in the Ganga River’s condition as well, thereby benefiting a wider ecological system.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the project aligns with broader efforts to resolve disputes among various states regarding water sharing and resources. He noted that over the past twelve years, numerous disagreements had been settled satisfactorily among the stakeholders involved, enabling progress on several significant projects.

Dhami mentioned other substantial projects, including the Ken-Betwa and Narmada initiatives, as well as previously stalled projects in Uttarakhand, such as the Lakhwar, Jamrani, and Song Dams. The resolution of these issues is expected to pave the way for timely execution of vital infrastructure projects.

Rise in Mining Revenue

In addressing state revenue, Dhami reported a remarkable increase in Uttarakhand’s mining sector income, rising from Rs 300-350 crore to over Rs 1,200 crore. He attributed this substantial growth to rigorous measures taken by the government to combat illegal mining and theft, which have collectively raised the revenue by more than Rs 900 crore annually.

Additionally, he highlighted that this trend has continued for three consecutive years, with expectations for further growth in the current year. Dhami also indicated that the central government has recognised Uttarakhand’s performance by awarding it an incentive of Rs 200 crore. He stated that other states are now observing Uttarakhand’s model with interest, aiming to replicate its success in their own territories.

Dhami expressed confidence that the ongoing efforts will lead to sustained improvement in state revenues and overall economic conditions, thereby enhancing public service delivery across various sectors.

Chief Minister’s Birthday Celebrations

On a personal note, CM Dhami shared insights into how he celebrated his birthday by visiting children with disabilities at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities in Dehradun. He explained that it is a personal tradition of his to spend quality time with these children as a way of giving back to the community.

Dhami acknowledged the broader efforts undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to empower individuals with disabilities through educational and training initiatives. He stressed the importance of enabling this demographic to thrive rather than merely seeking sympathy.

He also noted that the youth of Uttarakhand have associated his birthday with a broader movement, designating it as Youth Day and a Day of Resolve by engaging in acts of service. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing shortcomings in service delivery and expanding facilities to reach all sectors of the state.
