Kia Seltos Hybrid Unveiled at Paris Motor Show, Launch in India 2027

The CSR Journal Magazine

Kia displayed the strong-hybrid variant of the Seltos at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, highlighting an electrified powertrain that is anticipated to be included in the Indian market by 2027. This new hybrid model will broaden the Seltos range, which currently offers petrol, turbo-petrol, and diesel options. The move towards electrification aligns with the automotive industry’s increasing efforts to enhance fuel efficiency and comply with stricter emission regulations.

Engine Specifications and Fuel Efficiency

The showcased hybrid variant features a 1.6-litre petrol engine that produces 102bhp and 141Nm of torque, in conjunction with an electric motor generating 129bhp and 388Nm. The total combined output of this system is rated at 178bhp. In the international version, power is distributed to all wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). Kia claims a fuel efficiency figure of 14.71kpl based on the WLTP testing cycle. Furthermore, this hybrid can operate using electric-only power under appropriate driving conditions, although the company has not disclosed the electric range available for this model.

The Indian adaptation of the Seltos hybrid is expected to maintain most hybrid technologies, albeit potentially with modifications to the drivetrain tailored for local market requirements. Final specifications, fuel economy details, and pricing in India remain unavailable at this stage.

Design Features and Interior Enhancements

The Seltos hybrid presented at the Paris Motor Show is the high-end X-Line variant, featuring a design closely resembling the Seltos already offered in India. A significant difference is the powered tailgate, which is not found in the India-spec version. The placement of the hybrid battery beneath the boot floor leads to the omission of a spare wheel in this showcased model.

Inside the cabin, the most noticeable alteration is the gear selector’s repositioning to a stalk on the steering column. This layout, similar to those used in Kia’s electric models, allows for additional storage space and cup holders in the centre console. The interior boasts an all-black aesthetic along with features such as a triple-screen layout, ambient lighting, a head-up display, metal pedals, wireless charging for mobile devices, and leatherette upholstery. However, the features offered in the Indian version may differ from what is presented in Paris.

Current Engine Options for the Seltos in India

The introduction of the hybrid model will complement Kia’s existing engine options for the Seltos in India. The naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine generates 115bhp and 144Nm of torque, available with manual and CVT gearbox choices. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 160bhp and 253Nm, with options for a six-speed iMT or seven-speed DCT. Additionally, the diesel variant employs a 1.5-litre CRDi VGT engine that delivers 116hp and 250Nm of torque, compatible with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The addition of a strong-hybrid option aims to provide consumers with an alternative, particularly for those seeking to minimise fuel consumption without opting for a fully electric vehicle. For Kia, the Seltos hybrid represents a significant enhancement to one of its key product lines in India. Comprehensive details regarding the Indian version—including final specifications, fuel efficiency figures, variant offerings, and pricing—are expected to be disclosed as the anticipated 2027 launch approaches.
