iPhone 18 Launching Early 2027 with Higher Price and New A20 Chip

The CSR Journal Magazine

The iPhone 18 is anticipated to be launched in early 2027, following Apple’s recent introduction of three new smartphones in September 2026. This launch deviated from the company’s usual pattern, as it unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and its first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, while omitting the standard model. Reports suggest that Apple plans to release the iPhone 18 alongside two additional models, the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2, early next year.

Improvements in Battery and Chipset

A recent leak from Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo indicates that the standard iPhone 18 will come with significant enhancements, particularly in battery life and chipset performance. The leak suggests that the new model will offer longer battery life compared to the iPhone 17, continuing the trend established by the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Furthermore, the device is expected to be powered by an A20 chip manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometre process, although it will differ from the A20 Pro chip found in the Pro models.

In terms of design, the standard iPhone 18 is reportedly not set to feature the smaller Dynamic Island, which is a characteristic of the new Pro models. Instead, it is likely to retain the same Dynamic Island design as its predecessor, the iPhone 17, which may appeal to users familiar with the current model.

Despite these enhancements, the iPhone 18 is also expected to see a price increase. The ongoing crisis affecting RAM and memory supplies is anticipated to contribute to this hike, meaning that the new model may cost more than the current iPhone 17, which is priced at Rs 99,900, up from Rs 82,900.

Price Trends in Apple’s Smartphone Lineup

The price increase for the iPhone 18 is part of a broader trend observed in Apple’s recent launches. During the introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro series, prices rose by up to Rs 30,000 compared to their predecessors. This trend is not unique to Apple; competitors such as Samsung and Google have also raised the prices of their flagship devices, with Samsung increasing the prices of its Galaxy S26 lineup by Rs 15,000.

Despite the price hikes, Apple has reported remarkable sales figures. In the fourth quarter of 2026, the company achieved iPhone revenue of $57.58 billion, marking a 17 per cent increase year-on-year. This surge in revenue coincided with the launch of the more expensive iPhone 18 Pro models and price increases across older models. Overall, Apple recorded total revenue of $114.5 billion, a rise of 12 per cent, with Mac sales increasing by 24 per cent to $10.79 billion and services revenue reaching $31.57 billion.

Apple’s CEO, John Ternus, has acknowledged the rising costs of memory components, which continue to exert pressure on the company’s supply chain. As the tech giant navigates these challenges, consumers will be watching closely for the official announcement of the iPhone 18 and its specifications.
