Panic gripped the Narayanpur area in Ward No. 4 of Gangarampur on Wednesday morning after a man allegedly murdered his wife, severed her head, and sat inside a local temple holding it in his lap. According to local witnesses, the incident came to light early in the morning when a few residents went out to pick flowers. In the dim dawn light, they spotted a local youth, Rintu Ghosh, sitting inside the temple premises with his hands raised.

Upon closer inspection, horrified onlookers realized he was cradling the severed head of his wife, Seema Sarkar Ghosh, with fresh blood dripping from it and a lit bidi placed between her lips. Moments later, Rintu stepped down from the temple platform and began pacing around the neighborhood holding the head, triggering widespread panic.

Police Action and Evidence Recovery

Upon receiving news of the horrific spectacle, a team from the Gangarampur Police Station rushed to the scene. Officers recovered the victim’s body, detained Rintu, and seized a sharp weapon from the site. Preliminary inquiries suggest marital discord as a potential factor, though all possibilities are currently being investigated.

Sudden Lifestyle Changes and Family Reaction

The victim’s brother revealed that Rintu previously worked as a government contractor. However, after losing his job a while ago, he underwent an abrupt behavioral shift—becoming intensely religious and suddenly adopting a strict vegetarian diet. The family noted that despite his sudden changes, there had been no known history of major domestic disputes between the couple.

Erratic Behavior and Suspected Mental Unbalance

While inside the police vehicle, Rintu made rambling declarations to bystanders, claiming he had turned into a “psycho” following his job loss and lack of opportunities. Investigators noted that Rintu’s statements are highly inconsistent and erratic, and authorities are arranging a medical evaluation to assess his mental stability as the investigation proceeds.
