Kamakhya Temple Prepares for Ambubachi: A Four-Day Divine Retreat Begins June 22

With just a day left for the start of the annual spiritual congregation Ambubachi Mahayog at the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, there has been a surge in the number of sadhus and yogis arriving.

This annual festival marks the menstrual cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, and people from different parts of India and across the globe come here for sadhna.

The four-day-long spiritual journey begins on June 22 and ends on June 26. During this period, the temple remains closed and only reopens on the last day.

Large groups of pilgrims have already started arriving from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Every year, sadhus from various akhadas come here and are seen meditating for days, often without leaving their place even for an hour. During a conversation, one such sadhu shared, “This place has divine energy. Every year, I come here to connect with Maa. I feel my soul align with her. During this time, I completely surrender myself to my mother, and the spiritual energy guides my soul.”

One of the pilgrims from Rajasthan, Manoj Sharma, shared that he has been coming here for the past two years. Each year, he treks the mountain, meditates, stays there through the day and night, and returns in the morning. He said, “This year, by my mother’s blessings, I have managed to come again. With her wish, I will continue to come every year as long as I live.”

Owing to the surge in devotees, special arrangements have been made, it has also been identified that Nilachal Hills where Ma Kamakhya temple is located is landslide prone, thus the Kamrup district administration along with the Guwahati Police are taking adequate measures for the smooth celebration of the annual festival.
