Johnny Lever’s Daughter Remembers Brother Jessey’s Tumor Struggle at Age 10

The CSR Journal Magazine

Veteran actor and comedian Johnny Lever faced a profound personal challenge when his son, Jessey Lever, was diagnosed with a tumor on his neck at the tender age of 10. This shocking revelation transformed the family’s life, marking the beginning of a challenging journey that extended over two years.

After an initial surgery in Mumbai proved unsuccessful, the family sought medical assistance internationally before Jessey ultimately recovered.

Jamie’s Reflections on the Tumor Diagnosis

In a recent conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Jamie Lever, Johnny’s daughter, shared her memories of that difficult time. She recounted how the health issue surfaced while Jessey was still in school.

Initially, the family struggled to comprehend the seriousness of the situation until it became evident that the tumor was causing significant discomfort for Jessey. Jamie reflected on her protective instincts towards her brother, stating, “He even changed the way he dressed to hide the tumor.”

The Decision for Surgery

As their understanding deepened, the family realized that surgery was unavoidable, initiating a challenging phase in their lives. Jamie spoke about the emotional impact this period had on them, saying, “We had to go into surgery, and it was very difficult and complicated.” The family’s dynamics changed significantly as they leaned into their faith during this trying time, moving towards a more spiritual outlook.

Medical Interventions and Challenges

The initial surgery conducted in Mumbai was not successful, compelling the family to seek more effective options abroad. Jamie explained, “After the failed surgery in Mumbai, we opted for another operation in America, which was quite extensive.” This journey included two surgeries and was marked by a lengthy process that deeply affected the family’s emotional state. Throughout this ordeal, the family focused on prayer and hope.

Faith and Family Support

As they navigated this turbulent time, Jamie highlighted the importance of their faith. “After the first surgery failed, we started praying constantly,” she shared. The family engaged in prayers together, with neighbors and friends coming to support them during the difficult days. Jamie recalled an emotional moment when her father prayed for guidance before the second surgery, feeling a divine encouragement to proceed.

A Fortuitous Discovery in the US

Interestingly, the trip to the United States initially aimed to be a summer vacation for Jessey, fulfilling his wishes as he dealt with illness. However, while visiting a church, a priest’s inquiry about Jessey’s condition led to a new path; he provided them with the name of a hospital, assuring the family that “God is going to heal him.” This moment felt pivotal to the family, who subsequently followed through on the recommendation and secured the surgery that would ultimately be successful.

Jessey’s Journey to Recovery

Today, Jessey Lever is 35 years old and living a normal life. Reflecting on this entire experience, Jamie noted that this challenging phase had not only brought the family closer but also reinforced their faith. The collective struggle and triumph illustrated the strength they found in unity during one of the most testing times in their lives.
