Increase in Ganja Sales Linked to Rising Crimes Against Women in Tamil Nadu: BJP Leader Nainar Nagenthran

The CSR Journal Magazine

Nainar Nagenthran, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief, expressed serious concerns regarding the surge in ganja sales in the state, alleging that it has correlated with a rise in crimes against women. During his address at the Election Media Workshop 2026, Nagenthran emphasized that the issue of crimes against women has escalated and attributed it to the reported increase in drug circulation throughout the region.

He stated, “The main issue in the state is crime against women. It’s because of the increase in Ganja sales in the state. Law and order are in the hands of the Chief Minister.”

Response to LPG Shortage Claims

In addition to discussing drug issues, Nagenthran responded to concerns surrounding a potential shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in India amid escalating tensions in West Asia. He refuted these claims, characterizing them as part of a misleading narrative. “There is no shortage of gas, but a false narrative is being spread. There is no deficiency, but it’s been created through their narrative set. There will be no scarcity of gas, and it’s what we should tell people,” he remarked.

NDA’s Confidence in Upcoming Elections

Nagenthran expressed optimism about the prospects of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the forthcoming Assembly Elections in Tamil Nadu. He stated his conviction that the NDA would secure victory, saying, “I am sure the NDA alliance will form the government. How we will form government is not your (opposition) problem, we will take care of it.”

Political Landscape Ahead of Assembly Elections

The NDA coalition is ramping up its campaign efforts as the Assembly elections approach, which are expected to take place in April or May. The alliance is strategizing to challenge the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led coalition. Political parties are actively preparing for the upcoming electoral contest, with the NDA and the DMK-led alliance, which includes Congress, nearing the finalization of their seat-sharing arrangements.

Previous Election Context

In the previous 2021 Assembly elections, the DMK-led alliance achieved a significant victory, securing 159 seats and establishing the DMK as the single largest party with 133 seats, thereby surpassing the majority threshold independently. In contrast, the AIADMK attained 60 seats, with its ally, the BJP, winning 4 seats.
