When a Honk Led to Horror: Software Engineer Rams Scooter in Bengaluru

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 23-year-old software engineer has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly ramming his car into a two-wheeler, injuring a couple and their child, in what police have described as a case of attempted murder. The incident, which took place on October 26 near MS Ramaiah Hospital, was initially mistaken for a hit-and-run before CCTV footage revealed otherwise.

From Traffic Spat to Violent Retaliation

Police said the confrontation began when the two-wheeler’s rider honked at the accused, Sukruth Keshav Gowda, for blocking a free left near Ramaiah College. The honking reportedly angered Sukruth, who then followed the scooter and intentionally rammed his red Tata Curve into it. The family Vineth A (33), his wife Ankita Patel (31), and their young son were thrown off the scooter by the impact.

Witnesses rushed to help the victims, taking them to MS Ramaiah Hospital for treatment. Ankita suffered injuries to her hand, shoulder, and head, while Vineth sustained rib injuries. Their son escaped with minor bruises. Vineth later visited St John’s Hospital complaining of chest pain. The accused, however, fled immediately after the crash, abandoning the victims on the road.

Footage Reveals Shocking Truth

The case was first registered as an accident, but investigators noticed inconsistencies in the statements. When officers examined CCTV footage, the act appeared deliberate. “Once the footage was obtained, it became clear that the collision was not accidental but deliberate,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Akshay. Following this discovery, the case was transferred from the Traffic Police Station to the Sadashivanagar Law and Order Police Station.

After tracking the vehicle through surveillance and registration data, police arrested Sukruth on November 13 near Balaji Layout. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to chasing the scooter but claimed he only wanted to “scare” the rider, not harm him. Investigators, however, ruled that the act was intentional and amounted to reckless and violent behaviour.

Techie Booked Under Attempt to Murder

Sukruth, a resident of Kodigehalli and an employee of a private company in Whitefield, has been charged under Section 109 (Attempt to Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. His car has been seized as evidence, and he has been remanded to judicial custody.

Police said the incident serves as a stark reminder of how minor road disagreements can spiral into dangerous confrontations. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether any other offences can be added to the case.
